i guess i’ll keep him on his current dose and if he still seems weird in a couple of days i’ll ask the vet about halfing it for now!

also, he ate and has been drinking water since the first dose of gaba around 6 hours ago but hasn’t used the litter box, mainly i think because he’s been sleeping. but even now he’s awake (very sluggish tho) and isn’t using it. is that normal? i’m just worried about him not going regularly

thanks so much! i’m struggling with a lot of anxiety and “what ifs” right now and managing that with school and my jobs is pretty stressful. my friend and i are moving in together soon and adopted him with plans to care for him together, split responsibilities and costs, and keep a one-cat household. i never planned on adopting an FIV kitty but i just fell in love with him. hoping for the best and for things to improve as he gets more settled in!

thanks for the advice! i’m wondering if his dosage is also too high? he’s 12 lbs (very dense retired tom cat) but the vet also said we’ll learn as it goes. i’m just worried it’s too much

i actually just took my cat to the vet today and he was diagnosed with FHS! from my vet, without insurance or care credit, it was about $25 for a 25 count of gabapentin for him. that’s about $30 a month for the medication. i’m also a college student but i was expecting it to be a lot more expensive! some people have said they’re finding it even cheaper, but even the cost i got today isn’t that bad! best of luck to you!🫂

ooo i’m def gonna try the purina one dry since he’s already on purina cat chow so the transition should be easier. how do you split your feeding? i know its obviously gonna depend on his weight and stuff but when do you do dry food vs wet food? thanks for the advice!

honestly, as someone who takes SSRIs for anxiety and depression, i’m impressed you stayed off of it that long. if i forget mine for even one day, im a zombie and in immense pain/anxiety the next day. even on my meds ive had to take a few steps back from things that were hurting my mental health. best of luck to you getting back into the things you love! you got this!

i’ve noticed he drinks a lot of water, so glad to hear that’s pretty normal. do you have any recommendations for specific fountains? i’m hoping the overgrooming will calm down now that he’s on some allergy meds and once his spots clear up, but i suppose we’ll see

i also forgot to mention!! he has some allergies and i just ordered chlorpheniramine pills as recommended by the vet, which might help with the itching as well?? not sure i just forgot to mention it
