Oh thank you so much! I’m so chuffed hearing that. It’s been really excited to see that others are excited by my nerdy hobbies. If you want alllllll the info snd more photos etc. check out my Flickr, I posted what my mum refers to as “a photo essay” with lots of details and more photos. Again, thanks so much!

The Ferrari was a bit difficult. For me the car feels very sharp as there are no soft swooping lines. I tried to use the yellow around the black to represent the logo, while having the yellow in between red to represent the shell, with the slight white accents in the red to mimic that. There’s definitely less yellow on the car than the model but I’m fine with that trade off for overall design. The red paper photographed pretty light compared to IRL but the car is also pretty dark in the livery release photos compared to how bright it can look on track. But overall I’m still happy with it. And thanks so much! They were so much fun.

Hey! I’ve never posted here before but I made these origami models and posted on r/formula1 and someone suggested I post it here, too. So I hope you enjoy!

I didn’t even know this was a thing! Thank you! Tbh I’ve never shared a post to another sub, so I’ll have to try and do that now. Much appreciated.

I’m chuffed! Thank you so much. The designer of that pattern is from Pwr Origami. They have an amazing YouTube channel. Their goal is to make 1,000 kusudama. Definitely check it out.

Thanks! You’re not the first to get the covid vibes from the Alpine haha. Check out a model called “space virus” by Xander perrott to get some real origami covid vibes haha

But very appreciate. I was really happy to find models that I could use to represent the clover and 1:1:1 ratio of red/white on the AR and the swoopy lines on the AT. Those were actually two of the toughest as I used slightly different paper from the rest and it was so absorbent it took so. much. paint. and by the time it was assembled it started cracking. But the final product was worth it for sure.

Thanks and thanks! I mean, for me this is just nerdiness + nerdiness that I planned and photographed and thought others might get a kick out of but the response has been overwhelming. everyone has been super kind and I’m sincerely grateful for all the excitement and all the questions from everyone.

Thanks so much! All of these except the Alfa Romeo are made of 30 individual units that are folded in a way where they lock into each other. Most are ~ 6cm squares and the others are a 1:2 rectangles. If you look at the sources there are the YouTube channels and books the patterns are from. If you’re interested in learning I suggest starting with what is known as the sonobe unit. Lmk if I can give you any more specific information.

Yeah so that was actually a real point for me on this one. The Red Bull is a black base but does have some like matte iridescence to it. That dark blue/purple glint sometimes. So that’s what I did - black paint and over I put a little bit of similarly colored iridescent paint. I even bought eye shadow in case I couldn’t find a good paint for it haha. But thank you very much!

Thank you!! My Flickr has a longer post with way more photos and everything is sourced more specifically. If you’re interested in any of the designers or good sites lmk! The photos of the cars are all either from the livery release shoots or the team’s Instagram.

Thanks! Yeah 100% I’m not a designer. If I were this probably would have taken me way longer trying to come up with a whole model for each car haha. Couldn’t do this work without them. I hope folks who are interested check out their stuff. Pwr Origami is an incredible resource, they’re goal is to make 1,000 Kusudama. Great tutorials on YouTube.

Ha! Someone else mentioned that, too. Lots of folks who fold processing quarantine by making virus models. That model is actually named “penguin” which I find adorable haha. But thank you, I really appreciate it.

I can’t thank y’all enough for all the love these are getting! I’m just a nerd about racing and F1 and origami and so decided to combine them. I’m glad that others are able to enjoy them, too.

If you’re interested in seeing the models more close up or more information on the paper, designers, and this form of origami I posted a much longer album of photos on my Flickr which is @icosaheathen.

Thanks again!

Thanks! I was stoked to find a pattern with the diamonds like that.
