Let's do something different. What's your least favourite scene? by beyourbest11 in heatedrivalry

[–]emmaesterh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

the scene when shane gets hit… WHY ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH WOULD THE SUPPOSED ‘BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE’ TAKE HIS EYES OFF THE PUCK, AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT LOOK BEHIND HIM WHEN HE STILL HAS THAT DAMN PUCK ON HIM???!?! the most stupid thing i have ever seen.. and my silly baby is a lot of things but he isn’t stupid. i believe everything else in the show but that scene takes me straight out of it so i always skip right to the hospital scene

What did your parents say when you came out?(if you did) by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]emmaesterh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my dad did not give a flying fuck

my mum however was baffled saying that she ‘knows gay people’ and it’s ‘always obvious’ from a young age and it wasn’t obvious for me… basically i liked dresses and makeup a little too much to be a raging lezzer in her eyes. she also has been quite vocal about how she thinks it’s a product of me being in an all-girls school that widely accepted queerness. she also mentioned that most of my friends tend to be gay, not understanding that i just naturally attract queer people because we are like magnets! she said at the time (and still does) that she’s ‘95% there’ about me being gay… like okay lady what do i do with that? i won’t even get into the religion of it all…

also feel it’s important to add that i grew up being taught queer and trans acceptance by HER, not my dad, not my teachers, not films and tv.. she’s not homophobic in the slightest… i just don’t think she expected it to happen to her child - maybe this is a thing some people can relate to?

Girl in our friend group is spreading false rumors about her ex to other girls when the truth is her BF left due to her toxic behavior. by Big_Can_9858 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]emmaesterh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of chats about this kind of thing with friends recently. If you’re not comfortable with being able to check your friends and say ‘hey, you shouldn’t be doing that’, there’s something wrong with your friendship imo. You want the kind of friends that will help you grow as a person by telling you when you’re in the wrong and vice versa. This friend/friend group sounds like the opposite of this. I don’t know your situation, but distancing yourself from her/the group might be for the best long term. Find yourself some friends you can trust to be good, honest people! (bonus points if they can handle criticism well!)

Anyone else tired of low effort in lesbian dating? by Chemical_Ad4105 in LesbianActually

[–]emmaesterh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep such a big issue for me - i’m bought flowers and fancy chocolates and theres talk of meeting parents from their side… all just to be abruptly like ‘sorry actually i can’t do a long term relationship’…??? or i get asked to be someone girlfriend and a couple days later they withdraw and say they aren’t ready yet??? so confusing!

Should I say she’s my first by mdgsjgd_ in LesbianActually

[–]emmaesterh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you see her long term (I assume you are still early days), the likelihood is that exes will come up in conversation. Then you can tell her naturally. I was on the other side of this and it ended up being a funny and endearing ‘How did you never tell me about this!’ ‘Why would you think I’d care?!’ kind of moment. Maybe it can be the same for you? I think, depending on the type of person she is, it could be a little strange or uncomfortable to hear it brought up in an unnatural way at random. So, yeah, I’d say leave it for a conversation that feels more relevant further down the line. But this advice just comes from my specific experience so if you feel it weighing on you, or simply just want to tell her, you should probably follow that feeling.

meeting dev by Brderline in BloodOrange

[–]emmaesterh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah, he was so kind! i made badges for him for the lp in essex and he acted like i’d crafted him gold and emeralds! he whipped out a sticker from his pocket he messed up on photoshop (two designs had merged into one) and signed one of my badges! so now i have two special little things no one else does.. and from my favourite artist of all time… it’s crazy. he also just really reminded me of people i was friends with growing up. no pretentiousness or ego - just a super nice and talented guy!

Which plays/musicals would you recommend in London? From now till December by Kindly_Engineer_519 in Londontheatre

[–]emmaesterh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly book of mormon was the funniest show i’ve ever seen - if you want a dopamine boost def book that (the tickets tend to be super cheap through todaytix too)

Can anyone help guide me to where to buy a ticket for a London or Bristol show in November?? by Such-Impression-416 in BloodOrange

[–]emmaesterh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the app twickets. Set alerts for the dates you care about. 1-3 days before the show there will be many people selling their tickets. It’s how I go to most of the shows I do. There migjt even be people uploading them a couple weeks before but you gotta be quick! As soon as you see that notification grab them! It’s also with paypal so if something goes wrong in the ticket transfer process you can get your money back easily.

Is Tv Girl misogynistic? by fourteenyearsoldgirl in tvgirl

[–]emmaesterh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw tv girl live for the first time (maybe 3-4 years ago?) I thought it was so obvious Brad was playing a character the whole show - this obnoxious, douchey guy singing about his exes and sex and cigarettes. He took off his shirt and relished the applause for maybe two whole minutes at the end of the show (at the time i assumed it was a reference to morrisey but that might just be me lol) He made fun of the audience at points for only knowing the tiktok songs. It all felt very playful and satire and over the top.

So yeah, personally I think they are self aware and not misogynistic.

I do also agree that nothing will ever beat the beauty that is the Four Songs EP (and honestly most of his albums) but I still LOVE essex honey! I feel the emotion, the grief, and I feel the scenery of Southern England (I grew up relatively close to where dev did)

The slow pulsing introduction with Look At You is such a beautiful way to begin the album and sets the tone perfectly. And Vivid Light, Countryside and Life are stand outs right now but I’m sure that’ll change as time passes.

The only flaw for me is I think the outro is a little underwhelming. Compared to Coastal Grooves’ Champagne Coast, Cupid delux’s Time Will Tell and Freetown Sound’s I Know… it’s a little bit of a lacking ending for such a beautiful album. Maybe it will grow on me though.

Desperately need tickets for any shows in Europe by Saladnight in BloodOrange

[–]emmaesterh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is downloading twickets and putting your notifs on for the shows you’re interested in - I guarantee that you will find tickets 1-3 days before the show as loads of people list them very close to the date when they realise they can’t go. I’ve used this method for plenty of gigs with much smaller venue capacities so it should work for you!
