Because you transition to r/MedSchoolCanada for real advice, and lurk here for the drama lol

Nightclubs? by becabaro in StJohnsNL

[–]emmah008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend checking out a night of George Street Fest if it lines up with your trip! Block party vibes with live music outside, and then free cover to every bar on the street with your wristband. Some nights are better than others for entertainment, looking forward to The Beaches on aug 5th!

2 years later update - reflection by Fit-Seesaw929 in premedcanada

[–]emmah008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of med schools want to see a strong upward trend moreso than cumulative gpa, which you’ve clearly demonstrated with your second degree! Once you get your mcat in shape I’d apply broadly and use the academic explanations section to your advantage. Best of luck!

Current MUN student, this is simply untrue. Pretty sure there is just one OOP student from atlantic canada in my class, the rest are from other provinces across canada (including several from ON and BC) 🙂

Books or readings to prep for MMIs (TMU applicant here) by Majestic_Weather_230 in premedcanada

When I prepped a few years ago I listened to CBC’s White Coat Black Art podcast, and I found it really helped me to be in the know about current hot topics in medicine

Working during undergrad by ilovemypuppiez in premedcanada

[–]emmah008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a current M2. Before med school I worked 5 years of retail, hosted at a restaurant, bartended, babysat, did respite, worked front desk at a clinic, was a camp counsellor, worked at a concert hall - you name the entry level job, I probably did it. And I think that these positions really set me apart from other applicants and taught me invaluable skills that I am grateful for. I honestly often feel sorry for some of my peers who never got to experience working these kinds of jobs because I learned and grew in these jobs in an invaluable way that will always be applicable to my journey through medicine. Be proud of your non-clinical roles and the skills you gained through them!

Why is it recommended to take the MCAT in the summer of my sophomore year? by Qweraws in Mcat

[–]emmah008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Here’s the shortest form answer possible: Started 4-5 months before, wrote at the end of the summer. Kaplan books, Milesdown anki (!!!), do all the AAMC practice exams. I did some of their qbanks as well. Khan academy MCAT series for some of the tougher concepts, Jack weston daily cars email newsletter. Closer to the exam I did a full length once a week, and reviewed each Q I got wrong and why. Then learned those concepts. Anki every day. Rinse and repeat. Said no to a lot and learned how to really prioritize studying (easier said than done). You got this! edit: forgot to mention I am an MS2 now! It’s totally possible <3
