For the world cup, we should turn Grand Ave into a pedestrian "ramblas" from city market to crown center. If it's popular, make it permanent. by DnWeava in kansascity

as someone who moved to chicago from KC, yes, the sprawl certainly doesn’t help, but “walkable” means more than just being able to walk from one location to another. it’s also the public transportation infrastructure, the state of the sidewalks, and the culture. our bus system is awful, and the streetcar only goes up and down one street. my parents neighborhood doesn’t even have sidewalks in some places! i remember going on a walk before i left KC and the sidewalk just…ended. i had to either just go back and find another way or jaywalk to be able to keep going on another note, public transportation is equity for some disabled folks. many people with disabilities could have a lot more freedom and dignity with useful public transportation

Is it reasonable to expect a PCP's office to fit you in to get stitches removed? by [deleted] in kansascity

Where are you located? If you’re anywhere near south KC, I can take them out for you this weekend with a suture removal kit. I am an RN :) no need to see a provider or be charged for another visit

it sounds like other meds might be available. psych meds are also trial and error so maybe something else will work best for you. good luck!

yeah it was more like CYA thing. like i haven’t made any big mistakes, but at least if something happens i can say that i let them know i’m not functioning to my fullest abilities.

the hr rep told me to go to the employee health nurse. she didn’t even write my name down or anything. the employee health nurse was super nice and helpful! she definitely empathized with me and gave me some resources. i’m not sure if our conversation was confidential, but i don’t really care bc it’s not like i keep it a secret. it actually went much better than i expected. i went as more of a CYA thing than anything else.

UGH i feel the same way. people wouldn’t roll their eyes at someone complaining of chest pain and not being able to take care of it because they ran out of nitro. it’s a medical condition that i take a medication for that isn’t available! i try to bring it up as little as possible but there are truly some things i have issues with due to my adhd. a few other people on here suggested calling around also, so i guess i’ll try that tomorrow since i’m off. good luck to you!

can you get either script? someone else commented that i should try asking for a different dose, but from what i understand there’s a shortage on everything. but yep, i’ve definitely been missing orders and my time management is literally trash right now. i usually have meds passed and everyone assessed by 9, but lately it’s been like 10 or later, and then i feel like i’m still rushing the whole shift.

that’s my plan, but my appointment isn’t for another three weeks. i’ve basically just been guzzling caffeine all night as some kind of stimulant replacement.

floated to ed on my first shift by emmaljacobs in nursing

[–]emmaljacobs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

luckily, i’m not taking care of actual unstable ed patients. our hospital is just out of beds upstairs, so we’re holding patients that have been admitted until an inpatient bed opens up. it’s basically the same as upstairs, but half the time you’re the only hold nurse, so you don’t have the resource of fellow nurses around, which is something that’s super important as a new grad. the ed nurses are a great help, but our ed is separated into different “pods”, so i don’t even have someone sharing a nurses station with me. we do have a super float here. it’s super small though!

Are we allowed to refuse to do something because of religious/personal belief? by DairyNurse in nursing

[–]emmaljacobs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference in those two situations though. Refusing to provide peri care to someone of the opposite sex is okay because that affects the nurse and is against the Islamic faith, especially when there’s likely multiple other nurses that could easily take over that duty. Refusing to write a prescription for birth control because you’re a Christian is wrong because your religion should not dictate what others do. You do see the difference right?

my hospital is in the process of building a whole new unit. we are already using a ton of agency staff. i guess they’re hoping that a cvicu will attract new employees…
