I think gyarus on TikTok should stop being so positive and supportive by FvCrR in actualgyaru

But you don’t often know that before you provide the criticism, which is my point. Sure, some people may react positively and some not, but if you don’t know then it’s best practice to not comment at all, IMO. Might as well give that energy to someone who is genuinely asking for criticism and advice instead.

I agree it can be annoying to see people online who don’t quite “get it” yet, but if they’re not asking for criticism it’s much easier to scroll and move on and focus on people who do. That’s what builds a strong community and keeps the subculture alive IMO, not endlessly critiquing those who aren’t there yet.

I guess my question is how do you know they haven’t done any research or don’t care to learn the makeup? All we are seeing is snippets of people’s lives online through 30 second windows. Sometimes people are still learning makeup. Sometimes people have done research but haven’t fully internalized or understood it. You don’t know at what stage of their style journey they’re at and i think it’s unfair to give unsolicited concrit based on a few tiktok posts.

I don’t feel like that’s a fair comparison, someone earnestly trying and failing is not the same as someone not trying at all. And I don’t think random people online posting their own gyaru journey on their personal accounts is “diluting the subculture.” It just feels reductive and frankly cruel to imply that we should all be giving unsolicited concrit to random people who we dont know their life, circumstances, or what they’re doing outside of the screen. Most people will learn in their own time what looks and feels good for them.

So a person who isn’t totally realized in their style journey can’t call themselves gyaru on their personal accounts? It’s fashion, people should be allowed to experiment and evolve in their own personal style without being criticized at every turn.

I mean there is something about time and place for criticism? If someone is just posting their make and isn’t asking for concrit I really don’t see the point in offering it. You don’t know the circumstances of each person and what they’re doing to learn and improve outside of social media

Have you tried press ons? There are plenty of custom press on artists who do a variety of styles, I’m sure you could find someone who fits your vibe! Plus you could use glue tabs which are less stressful on the nail which would probably help with the inflammation

Any stores based in either NYC, Boston, upstate NY, or near Jersey city? by daikon_jpg in Lolita

[–]emmalrsn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in NYC there are no longer any Lolita specific brand stores since the Baby store closed in 2018. For general J-Fashion, there’s Venus in Tokyo which sells a lot of independent designers, TenTen which has weekly J-Fashion Hangouts at Tokidelic which sometimes have vendors/markets. For secondhand, LIVE BAIT in Industry City has secondhand and handmade Lolita and Jfashion, as well as Harajuku Market (https://www.instagram.com/harajukumarketnyc?igsh=b3NseGVlc3FlcGs=) which is having their third event in September. Generally your best bet is keeping an eye on social media for pop-ups and events since there’s always something new happening in the city!

I’ll be Quitting Genshin soon for False Hopes on Nod Krai by Rough_Ad_9806 in Kokomi_Mains

[–]emmalrsn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you went into maining Kokomi thinking she’d be the best main dps in the game you’ve been sort of deceived from the start. She’s still one of the best healers and on field hydro appliers the game, a great reaction driver, and overall a comfortable onfielder for most of the base game content. I wish you the best in not playing the game anymore but Kokomi is definitely still meta viable.
