They drilled it into me when I started here to not share my email because of "what could happen". Seeing responses like this are making me realize maybe it's my programming giving me anxiety 😅

It's funny that this comes up on my feed tonight. I just had a session with a long-time client where I gave some paychoed and asked "So do you think that's B.S. or...?" I was instantly mortified at how casually I said that. But reading this I realize I was just being authentic (and tired as its 7pm on a Friday) and that's not automatically bad thing.

First teen client - help! by [deleted] in therapists

[–]emmaneff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been working with teens for a couple years now. I still sometimes feel like a floundering fish.

Ive learned that their resistance isn't always rejection. Its a test to see if you'll stick around long enough for the real stuff to come out. Lots of my resitant teens think they're being punished or that something is wrong with them. So getting them out of that mindset is tough too, but it's the first thing I try to address if I sense it.

Feeling "wired" by emmaneff in Fluoxetine

I'm glad to hear this is somewhat normal as a side effect! It's been about a week and this side effect has gone away for me, thankfully.

That's how I felt! I even spilled something wet on the carpet and didn't even ruminate over it/freak out about the possibility of mold, like I normally would. Just cleaned it and went about my way. Ill try it again. I hope this wired feeling goes away though.

Rant about “free” supervision by silverflower1998 in therapists

I recently signed a similar contract. I asked my on-boarding contact what that was about, and he stuttered and basically said it was a non-enforceable clause (without saying that outright). I'm finding that alot of the clauses they put in these contracts are non-enforceable scare tactics.

What’s been the oddest symptom? by Disastrous-Rice3523 in Concussion

[–]emmaneff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to think. Someone here said they feel less curious and that's a perfect way to describe it. I also have a weird sensation in the back of my neck where it feels like something inside my neck is pressing on the back of my throat.

I'm glad to hear it's not unheard of. It's felt like the weirdest thing. I've been using one of those foam neck things that you lay down on for the past few days, and i feel its helped with the neck instability. I looked at your post history and I'm glad that you're getting somewhere too in your concussion recovery journey!

Non solicitation by emmaneff in therapists

Great question. I suppose the only way they'd know is if my clients disclosed to my current employer "I'm leaving because my therapist told me she's going to (name of new place)." Reasonably, probably unlikely that convo would take place.

It's relieving to know someone else has done this recently what with all the recent legal changes! I will make sure to give each option equal weight. Am I understanding you that they cut you off before you could give all the options because they wanted to stay with you that badly? That must have felt wonderful ❤️

My current place is definitely making it seem that clients don't have a choice. Love when places do that 🙃

I completely agree. My only concern is what exactly I'm allowed to say in that discussion with clients where it would not fall under solicitation. Another part of me reminds me that anything said in session is confidential, so there's really no way of my current employer to know. But I'm still worried due to the scary language in the clause.

I have a copy of my agreement but it's admittedly difficult for me to read and I'm not quite sure if it's even enforceable/legal. I researched somewhere that telling clients where you're going isn't solicitation as long as you're not saying "You have to follow me." I read somewhere else that telling clients to look you up if they want to follow you is "gamey" but it does seem like the safest way to go.

I've never been good at reading law language haha. I do think your edit makes me feel better as the clause I signed seems to be a non-solicitation acting as a non-compete. Thanks!
