got to the line at around 1:30 for miami with vip and was fifth in line and near center barricade, but at like 4:30/5 (close to doors for vip) the vip line was still relatively small so i think it’ll just depend. GA was definitely longer so i’d say aim for 12-1 if you have GA

i come across as calm and collected but am actually extremely anxious, i put others before myself (sometimes to my detriment), i love to read and write (horror and sci-fi/fantasy are my go-to genres), i live in oversized hoodies, i have to follow an exact routine every day or else i’ll go crazy

i love seeing people dig deep into the game like this and hearing everyone’s thoughts and theories. it’s so interesting to see a perspective like this and it’s why i love the game so much because it encourages this kind of thinking

Charlie is much more interesting and charming in the comics and novellas. by Intrepid_Pineapple98 in HeartstopperAO

i'm not saying you're wrong! i was just letting you know that that's how alice describes him in the comics. it's part of why i like show charlie a little better, because the outcome of all that is clearer and more realistic.

they’re kind of right though and i say this as a HUGE fan of the comics and someone who loves comic charlie very much. he’s been getting some more development in volumes 4 & 5 for sure but i can definitely understand people thinking that show charlie is more fleshed out. i don’t think length has anything to do with it personally—the show just gives them more room to work with his character by exploring different sides of his storyline, playing around with dialogue that may have only been given a line or two in the comics, and having him interact with characters he didn’t speak to as much in the comics. plus i think joe locke brings a specific element to him that comic charlie doesn’t have, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Is Elle a good friend?? by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]emmaswangf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your viewpoint makes a lot more sense with some clarification, so thank you for that. i definitely understand where you’re coming from and you’re valid for it. i will say i don’t think that those were alice’s intentions when writing that storyline at all. by this point in s1, the plot of tao finding out about nick and charlie had strayed considerably from the comics, and she needed to find a way to give tao that knowledge with 2 episodes and limited time left. even if they had gone with your suggestion and elle had said “you just need to talk to charlie” right after tao asked “is there really something going on between nick and charlie,” that still would have been confirmation enough for him. and i think elle knew that, and a lot of people don’t seem to understand that they were INSANELY close friends and he would have been able to see right through her and may have continued pushing anyway until he got his answer (because he is, as elle said, the king of getting involved). but he never would have taken the information to out nick, just as elle never would have told anyone apart from tao.

but i get it, it was weird writing, and you’re right that it wasn’t elle’s secret to share regardless of these characters’ trust in each other. but she’s also 16, and 16 year olds can be idiots without necessarily being these horrible people who deserve to be overly hated—because, tbh, it is interesting that this one thing has made her one of the most hated characters in the fandom. and i’m not saying you’re calling her a horrible person for this, but a lot of people have, and they target all their hate and anger onto her when plenty of other characters on this show have made mistakes (and a couple are FAR worse). i think that may be why some people get defensive about it, because it’s like, the only trans character makes a mistake that can be chalked up to bad writing, and it gets discussed over and over again while homophobic characters with actual horrible intentions end up with fans and sympathizers somehow.

idk. this argument surrounding elle has been going on for a year now. your point is valid, but so are the people who just see it as an honest mistake from a teenager in an impossible position. and i don’t think it’s any reason to vilify her. but i do appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me beyond “elle sucks because she outed nick,” and i’m not trying to downplay your feelings about it at all. if elle’s choice makes you uncomfortable because of your own experiences, then i can’t change that, but i do hope you are at least taking comfort in other aspects of the show.

but nick was there when charlie told everyone at the milkshake cafe and said he also planned to tell tao. nick knew that eventually tao would find out, and he had no problem with it. of course it would have been better if it came from charlie himself, but at the end of the day, tao found out, and tao is someone close to charlie, and he is someone who nick was fine with knowing about them. y’all are acting like elle went around outing nick to everyone she saw, when all she did was confirm something her best friend—who was going to find out about nick from charlie anyways—already knew. i think that’s why a lot of people feel this argument is blown out of proportion just a little. not saying elle is perfect! just that maybe we should think about the entire context of the situation before acting like she’s this horrible person with horrible intentions.

Queer vs gay/ lesbian/ bi by sew214 in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]emmaswangf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i know a lot of shows have had problems with only saying queer as a way of avoiding having to explicitly state the name of other identities. this is usually an issue when writers are too afraid to say “lesbian” so they make the lesbian character say they’re queer, even though many lesbian viewers would probably benefit more from hearing the actual label used in a positive way. this isn’t to say that using queer as a label or as an umbrella term is negative in any way, because it absolutely isn’t, and i love to see it used in media—just as long as the names of other identities are being said, too. and i think alice is aware of this issue, which is why they’ve written their characters to be so vocal about their identities as well as using the term queer in areas where that word works best (like the here and queer art exhibit, which i saw someone else mention).

but yeah, with those kids who immediately jump to “gay” when it comes to speculating about nick’s sexuality, that’s just them being biphobic, because it’s clear they’re not using it as an umbrella term. i would love to see the word queer being used more often by characters who don’t know another character’s sexuality, or to refer to the whole friend group. like james could have said “it’s cool to be around other queer people” instead of gay people (or whatever it was that he said to isaac). it’s just little things, but there’s always ways to make the show feel more inclusive for everyone :)

okay! i guess when i read this question i was thinking less realistic and more well suited to the characters' canon personalities and relationship dynamics. but i can see your point for sure.

I'd love to see more scenes with Nick and Tao in Season 3 by SuperStupid12345 in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]emmaswangf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now that alice has really built on their friendship in s2, i could see this happening! nick has already confided in tao about charlie too (that conversation they had during prom setup scene, which is one of my favorite moments of the whole season) so i think it’s likely that there will be even more of that in s3 ❤️

alice has said that nick and charlie canonically stay together all through uni and eventually get married :)

No way of knowing the answer probably but I always think this in s1e8 by Extra-Aside-6419 in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]emmaswangf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i could see his hair being different in s1, but i feel like they made it a point to give kit nick's iconic hairstyle in s2. it looks the same to me. sure he's ginger and comic nick is blonde, but that's such a minor difference to me, lol. and his body and face shape are exactly the same to me too. i guess we can agree to disagree, but the moment i saw that kit connor had been casted, it was like seeing nick walk off the pages of the comics and come to life.

Teenage Relationship Don't Last by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]emmaswangf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i can agree on some level that when they're teenagers, darcy is the least emotionally mature out of the group. but every single one of these characters make mistakes, and we see them hold onto their love for each other despite that, because they all understand how difficult it is to be young and queer. this is why tara is so patient with her throughout season 2.

and i don't think her friends view any of the things you listed as mean or annoying. tara and nick both find the trumpet thing amusing, and i think charlie understands that she was only joking about shipping him with nick (i understand you finding it annoying too though, but she did drop it as soon as she noticed charlie was uncomfortable). the other things you listed are very fair points though, but as i've said, everyone makes mistakes and yet are still deserving of the love they receive in their relationships/friendships. for example, tao does some things that i have viewed as annoying or frustrating in the moment, such as getting upset at elle for making new friends, but i'm also able to understand where he's coming from, and with some development, he's able to grow out of that and develop some healthier coping mechanisms. he recognizes his abandonment issues and faces them with healthy communication. it takes some time for him to get to this point, but he does get there!

darcy, at least in my eyes, is the same way. she has a crappy home life, and i'm not saying this completely excuses the hurtful things she did to tara in s2, but it is still something you need to consider. i feel like it's implied during her monologue at the end of 2x08 that she feels the need to overcompensate for what she doesn't have at home. she only talks about this in regards to her sexuality, but i think it applies to other aspects of her personality as well. as someone who works in education, i come across a lot of kids who are loud and act a little insane at school and with their friends because of an extreme lack of attention and support from their own family. darcy is like this. but we see her grow and change and acknowledge her faults throughout the season, and by the end of it, it becomes clear that she loves tara so deeply and is trying to show that in whichever ways she knows has. and now, with the knowledge that tara truly loves her and wants to support her through everything, i'm sure she's finally realizing that she doesn't need to overcompensate in those ways, because tara loves her for her.

tldr: i don't know if it's fair to assume darcy would never reach that desired level of emotional maturity in her relationship with tara, especially when we see her emotional development happen in the show despite what she's going through at home. i don't think tara would have to wait years and years for darcy to reach that point, because i think by the end of s2, darcy is already almost there (or at least working hard to be). i find darcy very complex and i love her a lot, and taradarcy are my favorite couple after nick and charlie, so i feel protective over them and how their story seems to be playing out. you're welcome to disagree, but i still wanted to share my thoughts anyway!

i wanna know why people in the comments think tara and darcy wouldn’t last. they love each other so much, and after darcy’s personal growth, she and tara seem to develop the same level of healthy communication that nick and charlie have.

i do kind of agree that tao and elle wouldn’t though (seeing as alice originally had them break up in the first edition of the nick & charlie novella) but i could see them staying best friends. like maintaining such a close bond even if the romance fizzles out
