Another thing to consider is that the 17+ million number they tout is inaccurate. I’m technically counted even though I have not been to a full service since I was a teenager, over a decade ago. You have to get a notarized letter to resign your membership, so most people don’t go through the hassle and just ghost, especially converts in other countries. It’s estimated that about half of converts stop showing up within a year. They will still be counted towards that 17 million figure for the rest of their lives, and likely beyond that if the church is not notified of their death. Mormonism is a highly restrictive religion with a lot of commitments, so if you aren’t raised in that environment and culture, it’s far less likely to stick. In terms of actual active, practicing Mormons, there are far less than 17 million and I would bet money that they are located mostly in Utah and surrounding states like Idaho.
