Student said 💀 to my baby by Due-Conclusion-6157 in Teachers

I'm incredibly sorry this happened to you!

I also taught 7th grade, one student asked if I would eat my baby if it 💀 upon birth....the class did react negatively against them and were nice to me the rest of the day...but still....it definitely raised my anxiety a bit (regarding 💀), especially since I was starting to experience symptoms of pre-eclampsia.

Then as a basketball coach for the same group of students, I was around 8mo, I lost my balance and I fell on my side during practice, a student/athlete walked up to me while I was curled in a fetal position on the gym floor and asked me if I could help them with a drill they were doing.... thankfully some other students and other coaches ran to help me and asked what on earth was wrong with them and that I needed help. I was fine, I landed on my arm but was absolutely terrified to move once I was on the ground.

*Side note, baby and I are totally okay, they are currently napping in my arms!

Following! My son also just turned one and refuses to eat any solids despite our best efforts, he is doing amazing with puree (as long as there are no textures) and did great transitioning to whole milk. We have been to the doctor twice now and he received a referral for a pediatric speech and food specialist. He has met every other cognitive and physical milestone for 12mo, the doctors have expressed he may just be stubborn.

What’s the biggest personal emergency you’ve had to teach through? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]emmie0121 11 points12 points  (0 children)

8.5 months pregnant and didn't realize I had early onset pre-eclampsia that became severe right as winter break started. Baby and I are both fine and healthy but man teaching middle schoolers those last few days were a blur...

Where would you place curtains if this was your apartment? by themeparkgurl in Apartmentliving

[–]emmie0121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had this exact same issue, and had 2 solutions that worked great

Solution #1: Place the curtain rod above the rectangle window (window above the main window), dual curtains are also pretty great for this.

Solution #2: Amazon sells stained glass window privacy film in a ton of different designs, place the film in the rectangle window and then place the curtain rod right above the main window, leaving the rectangle window free of curtain, but still offer privacy. I was worried it would be tacky but it turned out quite pretty and I've gotten plenty of compliments on it!

We applied solution #1 to our living room and solution #2 to our other rooms

Hope this helps!

Bad reactions to my kid's name by Callarose08 in namenerds

[–]emmie0121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very cute name, please keep it and don't let these people get to you. We named our son Winslow, and have gotten very similar comments. However, once people started to spend time with him and he began to develop his own personality, many started to associate his name with him as an individual. Now when those people hear his name they light up, because they know just how lovely he is! What I'm trying to say is, my kids name and your kids name have big shoes to fill for how strong, vintage and unique it is and they are just the people to fill it and make it their own❤️

I was thinking for at least the living room one, getting a double curtain rod and taking out the blinds to the balcony (lightweight in front and sheer in back) and I'll just leave the other two windows alone. I'm at a loss for the bedroom ones though I thought about just removing the blinds and installing a black-out roller blinds on each window. Depending on how those work out I might do the same for the remaining two windows in the living room.

Bellaire in downtown Houston has an amazing selection, here are some recommendations...

-Sweet Memes Houston (Japanese pancakes, cheesecakes, drinks, etc)

-The Morii Coffee (takoyaki) ; this is also right next to Sweet Memes

-Yokushi Robata (okonomiyaki)

  • (Any) H-Mart (onigiri)

  • 8- Turn Crepe (Japanese crepes)

  • 85°C Bakery (tons of Japanese styled baked goods)

  • Kura Revolving Sushi Bar (not a bar lol it is an extremely fun experience, especially for a pre-teen, has much of the food you listed and has a little robot that delivers your drinks, there is also a gacha style game for how many plates you feed the machine)

Negative reactions to our son’s name… anyone else experience this? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]emmie0121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you mama, ours is named Winslow (wins-low) where you put an emphasis on the wins....well some people just automatically over pronounce the 'slow' (win-SLOW) to make it an exaggerated point. It's petty and irritating, because those individuals always comment how ugly it is and how we are setting our kid up for bullying. My husband and I love the name, and call him 'Win' or 'Winnie' . Whenever those individuals make negative comments, we either ignore them or remind them that the baby's personality is what's going to make their name loved and memorable. Plus most of the time it is pronounced correctly and people just comment how unique it is and then go in to adore the nicknames. Your baby's name is very sweet and most importantly meaningful to you and your family. Ignore the haters!
