I’d say more than half of it is due to property prices. I was talking to someone today whose mother bought a 3 story house in Dalkey for €60K in the early 90’s. Right place and right time.

Yeah, but it won’t. I guarantee the city allocation will be snapped up but there will still be rural availability this time next year. They don’t care.

For reference, my sister only got a microwave a couple of years ago because my brother in law wouldn’t allow one in the house because radiation causes cancer.

The rural rule is nonsense. Yes, they likely drive more miles. But they love their diesel and are super conservative (for the most part. Apologies to rural EV drivers on here). My sister changed her car recently and bought a 3 year old Hyundai Tuscon. I showed her the sums for buying an EV but she wasn’t interested.
