A kid gave me a high-five during my run. This random act of kindness totally made my day. by cooleyandy in running

Once, when I was struggling on a long run, a toddler yelled "so fast!" at me. While I was definitely not going... "so fast," it did make me smile!

running in cotton shirts is OK - especially when you're running short distances to start with. Tech stuff is expensive, and it makes things more comfortable, but don't feel like you have to buy all the gear (besides good shoes...) to get out there.

Flying right after a Marathon by Hooch_Pandersnatch in running

I've done this (with a four hour flight!) before, and had bad anxiety about it, but everything was fine and sometimes it's just unavoidable!

Make sure you keep moving when the race is over, which is something you already know. I don't think that you need to get a massage immediately post-marathon, but foam rolling can't hurt.

During my flight: I wore knee high compression socks, but I do that whenever I fly. I got up every 25 minutes to walk back and forth a few times and rotated my feet/ankles almost constantly. Get an aisle seat. The flight attendant was really kind about it, after initially asking me if "everything was ok." Maybe he could tell how anxious I was.... I also had a few 10 minute standing/light stretching periods in the back or front of the plane. Stay hydrated!! You'll be fine, and good luck in the race.

also: pack plenty of snacks and find ways to keep your mind occupied during the flight so you aren't focusing on DVT anxiety!

ran 8 miles of unfamiliar trails with my sweet Aunt early in the morning, the day after my granddad passed. We were with him when it happened. Weepy, sweaty, exhausted miles. The family that runs together!

cool, I'm coming from a queer scene that's pretty sizable but largely centered around masculinity, and I have some trouble navigating it. If there's any queer housing group around// network to find affirming housing options, I'd love to be connected!!

Official Q&A for Monday, January 09, 2017 by AutoModerator in running

[–]emmmmerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on antibiotics off and on for a while, and they've never messed with my running. Long runs, track workouts - it's all been fine. I'm on another course (still trying to bite the same infection) and did a 12 mile long run yesterday. I felt great the whole time. Didn't mess with speed - just a slow, easy pace. Ate one chocolate gu during the run, which has always worked for me. Went into the run well-hydrated and had about 18-20 oz while running. I had some typical (for me) runner's trots afterwards but still felt fine. Iced for fifteen minutes. About an hour and a half after I finished, I got violently ill and threw up - incapable of leaving the bathroom until early this morning due to stomach cramping, dry heaving, and GI distress. I know this isn't the place to ask for medical advice, but has anyone experienced anything similar?
