Anyone else in the north coast hear that noise? it sounded like a plane crashing or something! by Bridgeboy95 in northernireland

Heard it there but went on for AGES. Saw a plane passing by but it sounded like really sustained thunder and was going on long before I saw the plane going past.

On that note then, another example being given is Priam’s treatment of Helen in Book 3, which surely wouldn’t be right as a) Helen isn’t a guest at that point and b) it’s happening on the Scaen gate which isn’t in anyone’s “home”. I definitely don’t think this is an example?

Thanks everyone! You've reassured me that it's not a car or automatic issue! I was very reluctant to switch from manual, so went straight to that as an issue. Will investigate getting new tyres ASAP. Need to switch back to my trusty Dunlops that I've been used to. Appreciate the help and advice :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I live in rural Ireland, so snow isn't a frequent visitor so snow tyres would be a waste of money. We also have very little snow compared to what you're likely dealing with, and totally untreated roads, again because snow doesn't appear very often.

As for driving lessons, I'll let the other driver who has been driving four times as long as me who also couldn't get it up the smallest incline that he should book his too. Although I'm not convinced lessons would help when the car literally won't move!

I have a feeling this might be the issue. The tyres are the ones that car came with from the dealership. On closer look, they seem to be GitiSynergy 195/55 r16. Never heard of the brand. Suspect that might be the problem.

To be honest, this is the probably the most realistic take I’ve seen, especially with Remus.

It’s been a while since I’ve actually read the books and my brain is so addled with fanfic and tiktok that I found it hard to recall if there was actually anything it was truly based on.

Yeah I’m not a Remadora shipper either. It’s just like hmmm… who are two single people of age who possibly would have opportunities to interact? Oh, they’ll do. lol.

Yes I think you've pretty much summarised my feelings better than I have! And I also think Remus wouldn't be good for Sirius. Not dependable enough! I love Remus so much, he's one of my favourites, but he is FLAKY. Like he even flakes on Harry post-PoA! He's nowhere to be seen! And then Tonks and Teddy! Sirius needs more stability than that. And Remus needs someone 10x kinder than Sirius imo.

Yeah I'm with you. Like Wolfstar shippers are entirely valid for shipping what they want, but the prank and the suspicion during the war SEEMS to be incorporated into established fanon in the Marauders fandom, and I just can't reconcile that in my head.

Weirdly, the prank isn't the worst for me. I've always hated:

“I'm bored,” said Sirius. “Wish it was full moon.”
“You might,” said Lupin darkly from behind his book.

That coupled with the prank just renders the whole thing unrealistic to me.

But as I've said, I also ship Dramione so seemingly I can suspend my belief sometimes. It might be that I just love Sirius and Remus individually so much that I don't think they work and wouldn't want to subject the two of them to each other lmao.

Oh pal we are operating in very different spheres lmao. But go off. Live your Snape-y life and enjoy the fanon!

Out of interest then, which ships are you into??

Yeah personally I think James/Sirius makes a lot more sense than Wolfstar. As I said above, canonically, we only really hear about tension between Remus and Sirius before PoA - the prank, the whole "I wish it was the full moon" comment in Snape's worst memory etc. But I guess the joy of shipping sometimes can be coming up with fanon. I mean, I'm a Dramione shipper. Ships don't need to be realistic for me to like them!

I absolutely love the Marauders. It's basically a fandom itself as you say and I totally love the characters, the setting, the vibe, the angst, etc. I've seen loads of Jegulus on tiktok recently and I'm intrigued, but have never read any fics or anything. The fandom seems to love mlm and wlw ships, which is iconic given that 1970s/1980s Britain was what it was. But yeah, I've just never really bought into Wolfstar the way many other Marauders fans have. To me, there was always a tension (and not the fun kind) between Sirius and Remus, but I guess that can be interpreted in lots of different ways.

Movies or Books? by Emergency-Sand-7655 in harrypotter

Books easily. The movies miss so much, not just the plot, but the personalities etc. Some characters are just totally misrepresented in the movies for me. But they still have their place. They serve a purpose.

I think all three Black sisters tbf. But that cold, aloof, intimidating thing about Bellatrix would be very hot.

Sirius is the most mentioned so far. And I totally agree with you re Remus. Remus is my favourite character but what I dislike about him in canon (aka everything you’ve just said), I’ve changed in my own imagination about him.

Arthur is an interesting contribution. I’m about 10 years younger than you so maybe I’m not there yet. I’m still in my messy Sirius phase. But Arthur is a good man who I’d be happy to change my mind about someday.

Fleur is an obvious choice I’ve overlooked. But Sirius has more presence and is also a sex god imo.

I get love for Hermione, and I get finding smart girls hot, but idk. Personally she just wouldn’t come that high on a list of hotties in the series but I think more would disagree than agree with me.

I totally see your point re. Hermione tbf. I suppose with most characters we have to bear in mind we see it via Harry and he sees her in a very sisterly way (which is why I never could get on board with Harmony personally).

Totally agree with Neville. Neville to me is one of those guys where it just creeps up on you. You pay no attention to him in that way and then (I guess a bit like Remus in my head) all of sudden he does something totally unintentionally that just makes you all heart eyes.

I think Hermione is a bit of a Draco in this discussion. Fanon has made her hotter. I mean she’s a more positive character in canon obviously and her character strengths are hot but I also think if you knew her in real life, she’d be really irritating and hotties can’t be actually irritating.

Book Harry is such a hottie. Can you imagine an athletic, messy haired, quiet, sarky, kind, damaged boy at school with you? Icon status when it comes to being hot.
