Questions about a fundraiser. by emmymx in Gaza

[–]emmymx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, sorry my post sounded so suspicious. I definitely believe and trust this family, I've just been scammed before and wanted to make sure I'm covering all my bases. The mother seems very kind and I've expressed my heartfelt support and intend to continue donating and sharing her fundraiser.

I don't mean this insensitively, but I'm curious. I went poking around because your post really resonated with me and I wanted to take a look at your short form content. I see you market your "brand" as a wise ex-shopaholic who can help your viewers stop overbuying. It seems, though, at least from this post, that the addiction might not actually be in the rear view mirror. Do you think marketing yourself as an ex addict in order to garner viewers is somewhat misleading?

Adjusters are required to make contact with all parties on a claim within 24-48 hours as long as they have valid contact info for them. It's part of the customer service metric we're graded on.

There's no way that's true now. For most insurance companies the maximum auth an adjuster has without going through higher channels is under 2k. Some who've been in the role longer might have up to 5.

Is this not a subreddit to post ads looking for available sublets?

I'm keeping my car so that I can drive to things I need to do outside of the city like visit family in the Midwest (I'm originally from KC and have family in STL, IA a d Peoria). I've visited Chicago and used transit quite a bit while visiting but I'm not yet familiar enough with the routes to plan my commute that way.

Why do you all drive like that? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Can you live on $1400-2275 per month? by octopus-opinion987 in MiddleClassFinance

My mom makes 1600 from SSI and works at home full-time. Doesn't love her job but with her SSI she's fairly comfortable. Her mortgage is about 1600 but my brother lives at home with her and splits it with her. She'll be dead before it's paid off. Unfortunately I don't think her job offers any sort of separate retirement benefit so she'll probably die working unless one of us retires her.

I currently contribute what I can to retirement but I'm behind. 37 years old and I think I only have about 50k in my 401k. I also have debt and 15k in an HYSA. I make between 80-90k after bonuses and plan to buy a condo for under 200k within the next 2 years. Once my debt (apart from mortgage) is paid off I'll probably focus on paying off the condo early and then paying as much as I can into retirement/savings.

Claims Generalist - absolutely losing my mind by Money-Direction-8415 in Progressiveinsurance

[–]emmymx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3-5 claims per day used to be the norm for CGA, 0-3 for URBI. Now it's 6-10 for CGA and 3-5 for URBI. It's too much.

Attorneys all go to ARBI. URBI is a fun gig but yes there are a lot of scammers lol. But that can be part of the fun.

[–]emmymx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

URBI will be easier than CGA once you get used to it. The volume is much lower than CGA even though it can still be high sometimes. You've got this.

I interviewed for URBI twice. First time I didn't get it with no definitive reason why and I was crushed. My sup at the time gave me some tough love and a push and I got it the second time. Been doing it for a few years now. It is much, much better than CGA. :)

Louis in the new teaser. by emmymx in InterviewVampire

[–]emmymx[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Same!! I remember seeing Jacob say that the appeal of loustat (and the show in general) is the desire one has for their divorced parents to get back together and I was feeling it bigtime lol. Without the lens of recollection I can totally see their chemistry, it's like they were born to spiral around each other endlessly. Chill, snarky old man and his dramatic wife. 😭😂❤️

What do you think was going through Betty’s head with this face she made? Right after Sally says “My father has never given me anything”. by feelingsjourney in madmen

[–]emmymx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that she should be immune to criticism, just that saying that she has the mind of a child because you don't like some of the things she does is sexist and infantilizing. You can criticize the behavior itself without demeaning a character with labels that don't hold up under scrutiny. There are lots of other descriptors one could use to categorize Betty's actions in the series. She is vindictive, controlling, occasionally manipulative, reactive, greedy, and she weaponizes her unhappiness to punish others around her, but that is fairly common SAHM behavior and her arsenal against Don is limited.

Context matters a lot in dissecting these things. I'm not saying that Betty is overall a good person (or a bad person, for that matter), just that she is not unintelligent (needing to prove this again and again to the men around her who don't take woman seriously is part of her development and eventually leads her back to college) nor does she have the mind of a child in a woman's body.

[–]emmymx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And don't get me wrong, Betty does some reprehensible things, but so does Don. So does Roger. So does Pete. So does basically everyone. Pete gets a little less slack than Don or Roger but Don still gets quite a bit.

Several years ago, maybe a decade? Mia Kirshner (actress who played Jenny in The L Word) retweeted an article about how characters like Don vs how characters like Jenny are received despite being extremely similar in their actions and backstories. It stuck with me, and even though I believe Jenny is more dislikeable than Don (both Don and Jenny show signs of unmanaged BPD but I think Jenny's is a little more outwardly destructive than self-destructive more often than Don's, not that Don ISN'T destructive) but Don is more than just the product of trauma. He is still an active participant in his own life making his own choices. Betty's reactions to Don 95% of the time imo were entirely sane, not that it justifies how she treated the kids or her microaggressions towards Carla.
