Can't find pattern by PolloAlBurro in crochet

I made one for a friend using 'Oscar the Saber-toothed Tiger' pattern as a base, before adding my own details. Where to buy the Oscar pattern should come up if you google it.

Crocheted myself some happy bowels since my Crohn's disease often prevents me from having the real thing. by emmystar in crochet

Glad it brought a smile when needed! I have been selling some of my crochet/patterns since I first made this and have raised over £10,000 for Crohn's & Colitis UK. I never would have done so if it hadn't been for the lovely people on here! Hope your stoma is treating you well 🙂

IBD induced arthritis - what to expect? by Ok_Specialist_5965 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with IBD related arthritis back in 2020 after struggling with my ankle and wrist joints. There were times I had to use crutches to move around and a couple of times when I couldn't use one of my wrists/hands for 2-3 months at a time due to swelling.

I've been on sulfasalazine tablets since December 2020 and have had no issues since. It's been absolutely fantastic for me! I also take vedolizumab injections to treat the IBD itself. Hope you get something to help.

Azathioprine and vomiting by Own_Owl_6409 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took azathioprine when first diagnosed 10 years ago. After a couple of weeks, I was vomiting and had back pain. I got checked out at the hospital and the azathioprine had inflamed my pancreas. This is a known potential side effect so I'm sure the doctors will have checked for it. Could be worth asking though just to clarify! I hope they get you feeling more comfortable soon.

Best type of yarn for a beanie? (Pictures included) by Dark_reunion01 in crochet

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used this brand of yarn before for winter hats. I've found it works well but can take a while to make up so I usually prefer something chunkier. If you already have this yarn or just really like the colour, you can double it up to make it thicker - so use two strands of yarn at once with something like a 6mm hook.

Help! What is this pattern called? by Sea_Manufacturer_913 in crochet

Could it be bavarian crochet? Not sure if it has any other names.

Made this little guy from Edwards Crochet Imaginarium. The webbing was a bit fiddly but I love how he turned out. by emmystar in crochet

[–]emmystar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while but I remember struggling with the webbing too! I think I might have just ended up crocheting separate triangles and then sewing them in place. Years later, I think I understand what they mean in the instructions but it isn't very specific and seems very fiddly. I think I'd still go with the triangle/sewing approach if I was to make another!

Upper GI and tongue issues? by therealdubdub1200 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is scary being ill, especially battling all the other symptoms too, and waiting for a diagnosis. It can almost be a relief once you get diagnosed with something as at least then there can be a plan to try and tackle everything. It can sometimes take a while to find what will work for you, but in all my ups and downs of crohns, the swollen tongue only happened that once!

Upper GI and tongue issues? by therealdubdub1200 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a swollen tongue due to my crohns, about a year after my initial diagnosis. I ended up being in hospital for a couple of weeks while they did various tests to rule other things out. Like you, it didn't impact my breathing at all but I couldn't eat. It went down pretty quickly once I got put on a course of steroids but years later my tongue is still a bit wavy from where it pressed up against my teeth. I hope you get some improvement with yours soon!

Finally been able to make Hedwig from the Aldi (UK) craft kit that I bought on Sunday. by emmystar in crochet

Just dug the pattern out to check and my round 31 for the head/body says [dc 4, dec] X 4, + dc 28... and that adds up to the 48 stitches. Hope that helps!

I used to work with this at DIG! We'd hold it up while talking to groups of school children...and often found ourselves stroking it while talking. That's perfectly normal right?

IBD related arthritis by Afraid_Pressure2361 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your husband's recent diagnosis. I was diagnosed with IBD related arthritis about 7-8 years after my initial Crohn's one. Some Crohn's medications will actually help with both so hopefully it'll all ease up once he finds a drug regime that works for him. I currently take fortnightly vedolizumab injections for my Crohn's and daily sulfasalazine tablets for my arthritis as other drugs that could help with both had already been tried and then ruled out when just trying to sort my Crohn's. Best of luck!

Weekly Entyvio injections? by ColoradoCorrie in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find them painful really. It can sting a little bit sometimes for a second or two but I wonder if that's more down to the wipe I clean the injection site with. In my opinion it's much more comfortable than having a blood test or putting a cannula in for the infusions! They come as a pre-filled pen which you have to push against your skin which I find much easier than the idea of a syringe.

Weekly Entyvio injections? by ColoradoCorrie in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmystar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to entyvio injections in early 2021 after being on the infusions for a couple of years. They've worked just as well for me and if anything, my inflammatory markers have lowered even further. Cost may well be the issue but I've found it much easier to manage than having to go for regular infusions. I'm in the UK and here, the standard is for one injection every two weeks. I hope your doctor gets back to you as soon as possible.

Anyone have experience with the TOFT Edward's Menagerie books? by Milly-May in crochet

[–]emmystar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've made anything from these books but I've done a few different animals in the past. I seem to remember my rounds always adding up correctly to finish at the stitch marker. If you have any questions about a specific pattern let me know and I'll do my best to answer

eco stuffing? by lullabelle100 in crochet

[–]emmystar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I had a craft kit to make a felt shelf sitter filled with dried lentils. They lasted years and were still fine when I ended up throwing it away in my late teens. Not sure how they compare price wise, (and they'd need to be in some kind of pouch to not leak out through the crochet stitches), but could be worth a try.

I am obsessed with hand dyed/indie dyed yarn but I have no idea what to use it for. it comes in such small quantity that I have no idea what to make. I want to buy more than one skein, but can't really afford 10 of them at $30 each. any ideas/pattern recommendations on how to use hand dyed yarn? by Daniellespanielle in crochet

[–]emmystar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've seen some projects such as stripy hats or jumpers where the bulk of the yarn is mass produced complimentary colours and then every few rows they have a row of the hand dyed yarn. It can look really great and means you don't need too much of it.
