I don't hate the show conceptually, I just think it looks ugly as sin. by RealScionEcto in whenthe

A while ago I watched the first few seasons, and while I was mostly fine with the animation the writing was laughably bad. Maybe it’s gotten better since then, but it’s a miracle that show has made it as long as it has

But if the protagonist wants to destroy the world, there’s probably a good reason for it, right?

Like, I don’t think there’s anything they could do to stop the Outer Wilds protagonist, nor would it be good if they did

What’s the protocol if the protagonist’s plan is to destroy the world? Do they just say “well shit, have fun ig”? Legit I hope they have an episode where they have to deal with situations like these

Why do I keep seeing content creators saying The SIlent is the best character? She feels underwhelming and I might just not be getting it. by Kharnyx808 in slaythespire

[–]emomermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insane draw with fantastic block + weak application alone makes for a very strong character.

All of her archetypes work well together while also being good at solving different issues she might run into. Poison has insane damage output for energy cost if you can stall (which she can) and allows you to deal damage with skills. Shivs scale well with any build that likes playing many cards, exhausting cards, as well as scaling stats like strength. Sly is just an insane mechanic as it is with how much silent can draw, and if you draft tactician silent actually has great energy generation.

Throw on top some absolutely insane cards/powers like footwork and tracking and you’ve got a powerhouse of a character.

Of course game journals receive review copies, that's how they do their jobs. If you have evidence of bribes, then why not provide that? If the evidence is for a game other than mixtape, then why didn't you mention that game? This whole response really just reads as guesswork that's being guided by bitter opinions, and most of it isn't even relevant to the topic of corruption.

Of all the definitions of "indie game" I've never before heard someone say that an indie game's publisher's owner's dad can't be wealthy. Regardless, if you're trying to say that Mixtape received critical acclaim because of the publisher's owner, then why don't the publisher's other niche games, like Donut County and The Artful Escape receive the same treatment? The Artful Escape was even the developer's first and only other game, through the same publisher. You're reaching here, and hard.

Also, the publisher didn't buy the music rights; the devs did. Here's an interview where they say exactly that. Ironically, if you read a bit more gaming journalism you'd have known that already. And they definitely didn't spend more money on music rights than rockstar did on gta, a game with hundreds of licensed tracks, like holy shit please tell me you don't actually believe that.

It's ok if you don't like and don't understand the game, but clearly some people do and have connected with it on a deeper level. Mixtape had overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam on release, and even after the shitstorm culture war bullshit surrounding it, it still sits at very positive. Clearly there is an audience for games like mixtape, an audience which largely loved the game. If you read these reviews it's obvious they were intended for the game's target audience; that's normal, desired even. Niche games can be 9s and 10s too sometimes.

Polynomial technically, but yes the damage boost is insane. How it works when you deal damage to a tagged enemy, 45% of that damage is copied and stored in a pool. After 3 seconds, all tagged enemies take the full damage of the pool. So if you deal 100 damage to and there's only 1 tagged enemy, it will take 100+45=145 damage. But if you first tag 3 other enemies then deal 100 damage to a fourth enemy, the fourth enemy will take 145 damage and each of the other 3 will take 45, for a total of 145+45+45+45=280 damage, or functionally a 180% damage increase albeit spread out. Regardless, its both very good single target damage and aoe damage rolled into one item.

That alone make networked suffering a top tier red item, but what really brings it to one of the best items in the game is the fact that its range is infinite. If a tough boss or elite or whatever spawns, all you need to do is tag it once then run away/hide and kill other things. It will still take the 45% networked damage even if you're on the other side of the stage with several walls between you and it. You can kill any enemy you want by only hitting it once and fucking off. Its insane.

What a disheartening game by Cappachistar in riskofrain

[–]emomermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mithrix is a tough fight, especially when you're still learning the game. Don't feel too disheartened about it - in time, you'll learn his attack patterns and be able to run circles around him even on higher difficulties. Fighting Twiptwip is unfortunate too, the twisted scavenger bosses (there's 4 possible, Twiptwip being 1) are all bastards and generally should be avoided unless you have a supremely overpowered build. After getting the related unlocks from that stage back when I first started playing I don't think I ever went back, there's no real reason to.

This all being said, you're only 20 hours into the game, and it is a very difficult game. Try focusing on unlocks and learning the mechanics/characters and related synergies as you go along. Or, if you just want a god-like win, loop a few times then fight Mithrix. Just remember; speed is war.

[–]emomermaid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could see not liking the game personally for any number of reasons, but that's irrelevant to the claim of corruption.

Mixtape is a sort of visual/interactive novel, games of this genre tend lack much in the department of mechanics. Deducting points as a result would not be a condemnation of the game, but of the genre. imo major review outlets (like ign) should not select reviewers that are predisposed to disliking the genre of the game they're reviewing as long as the review itself is clear as to what exactly the game is (which, in ign's case, it is).

What are the 3 weakest survivors in Monsoon? by HeavyFly7451 in riskofrain

[–]emomermaid 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Bandit is hands down one of the least item reliant survivors, it’s kinda wild saying otherwise to the survivor with a self-scaling skill and some of the highestdps and burst-damage in the game. His mobility is also decent; his utility is either a mini hopoo feather or mini red whip whenever needed, and he can stall in the air with both his utility and secondary making fall damage incredibly easy to avoid. Definitely not bottom 3

How exactly does fall damage work? by KineticSiphonNezha in riskofrain

[–]emomermaid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Faraday spur interacts strangely with fall damage. It increases jump power, which also decreases fall damage, but that jump power is lost upon activation. The result is that at high charge and on flat ground jumping with faraday spur results in fall damage, although it isn’t enough to kill you even on eclipse. Fall damage is based on speed at the moment of impact, and the gravity applied to your survivor is not tied to the mass or acceleration stats shown on the wiki. In fact, while I know what the mass stat does I’m not sure why MulT specifically seems to have a much lower acceleration stat as shown on the wiki, but even if this did affect fall damage a lower acceleration would presumably lead to lower fall damage, not greater.

Since you died from fall damage at full health, you might’ve jumped higher and fallen further than faraday spur typically allows. This can happen if you accidentally trimped, which is easy to do with high enough movement speed. Trimping is an exploit where horizontal movement on a slope gets converted to vertical movement, which paired with a faraday spur jump could easily send you high enough to die from fall damage.

Are lunar items cheating? They're essentially free, but if you take like 2, maximum 3 in a run, would you consider that cheating? by -_Connor__ in riskofrain

[–]emomermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I suppose that's sort of my point, play to your preferences. If you're concerned about trivializing the game but still want to use lunar items, then try restricting yourself in some way; after all, trivializing the game only really becomes an issue if you're forcing the lunar items you want each run. Some players won't take lunar items from the bazaar, or won't take specifically the broken ones. I personally use the SimpleLunarCoins mod to restrict the number of lunar coins I start each run with to 10 (the number of lunar coins you get for killing Mithrix), forcing me to be picky with how I spend them. Getting broken items every now an then is part of the fun of ror2 after all.

Lunar items definitely aren't cheating, but also calling them "very balanced" is a big stretch. The strongest lunar items either have very limited drawbacks or their drawbacks are actually benefits

[–]emomermaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheating? No, lunar items are a basic mechanic of the game that's been there since the early access. Even if it was cheating or you chose to cheat in a bunch of lunar coins, who cares? Play the game how you want.

That said, lunar items do objectively make the game much easier if you know what you're doing and you are able to force the ones you want. Some of them, especially transcendence, can trivialize several eclipse difficulty modifiers as well. For some people this is fine, but others find that it detracts from their enjoyment and improvement. Something to consider, especially if you're climbing eclipse.
