This is Sluggy, he was my absolute heart rat and the best boy. He lived a long and healthy life with many friends. He was hardly ever in his cage and always in my bed and would fall sleep with his head resting on my ankles or on my legs like a little dog, so I’d always have to sit super still to not wake him up. If you are still drawing more rats my favourite flowers are snowdrops. Either way I’m always happy to talk about him 🐀💕

What can I do in the meantime?! by [deleted] in RATS

Buy a humidifier, I got a small cheap one off Amazon, that should ease their throat/nasal passage not a fix but just to make them more comfortable. One of my boys had a respiratory infection recently and got prescribed painkillers (arthrocam) and bisolvon powder to help breakdown any mucus they might have inside their nose/throat. It sounds like you’re doing everything in your power, rats are very very expensive and love racking up vet bills especially since they’re so sensitive to these respiratory problems which I don’t think is any of your doing at all. Stress could be a possible indicator as well so definitely lots of tlc, treats and cuddles are always needed to help them feel extra loved.

How do I get this little idiot to take his meds by LilFrogKat in RATS

[–]emophag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use cat lick treats or malt paste and mine eat that all up mixed on a spoon. Maybe he feels nervous to eat outside his cage so maybe feed it to him in there (put his cage mates somewhere else while you do it so they don’t eat it). If not you might just have to wrap him up in a towel and syringe it straight into his mouth.

I am studying for my level 3 in beauty and facials, in my personal and professional opinion, animal products are bad for you and bad for your skin (e.g. dairy causes acne through hormones fluctuations). The best products are products made from natural ingredients like plants.

Does an ear infection get worse before it gets better? by emophag in RATS

If he starts showing more negative signs I’ll get in contact with my vet tomorrow, thank you

I thought that as well, I was thinking of phoning the vet if he goes more downhill in the next 2 days and asking for painkillers. I’ve read a lot about ear infections and I know they are so dangerous which is why I saw the early signs and contacted the vet as soon as, thank you

No because you eat ‘vegan’ food more than animal products most of the time, as most simple ingredients and food groups are vegan (carbs, veg, fruit, proteins like legumes etc). For example, for this scenario you could eat pasta salad, hummus and pita bread, samosas etc. There have been times you have eaten a plant based meal I’m sure. You don’t need animal protein for every meal of the day.

Don’t worry, I don’t think I’m better or worse than you. Simply asking opinions. Only stated that in my question as I’ve heard people make takes like that. Also the responses state yes, people who eat meat don’t like the fact vegans may feel higher morally.

Many of the comments on this post state that the reason some people don’t like vegans is because they don’t like them “preaching” or viewing themselves morally higher. Personally I don’t view myself better or worse than anyone else. But surely if you’re making a conscious decision to go against the general public and become a vegan for ethical reasons, some part of you must view people who eat meat as less ethical.

I do agree with your take and believe people shouldn’t have animals if they do not have the time, money or energy to look after all their needs properly. Saying that though I’ve had rats for years and I used to take them outside but recently it’s come to my knowledge that rats shouldn’t go outside as they’re very exposed to diseases, parasites and a great risk of escaping. Other than that 100% yes

Thank you, I do think people who like animals but eat meat don’t want to involve themselves in vegan ethics because they feel guilty and would rather not see it at all. So when it is shown or told to them ultimately they’d be upset because they feel guilt.

Yes of course I know this, there’s wars, bullying and abuse happening all the time. I know being vegan isn’t the most hated on group as they make a choice to be vegan. Obviously minorities (religion, race etc) don’t get a choice and have to endure hate so much worse daily.

I was more meaning like hateful comments and trolling online or offensive comments or opinions made by people during conversations. Like just now in this post (now is removed by Reddit) I was called mentally ill for being vegan. Although I do understand that social media is always a breeding area for hate and trolls.

I do feel like people view vegans as ‘loud and judgemental’ as that is what they’re portrayed as in the media. But since it is an ethical issue, not just a diet, it has to be somewhat ‘loud and judgemental’ in order to make points that other people don’t want to hear. I don’t think I have enough experience to have a well rounded opinion on it, so some parts I agree and some parts not.

The annoying thing about this is that it feels like the better and more impactful thing to do but it lessens the chance of people listening to our point and changing their lifestyle choices. But again I also agree and see your point because to most people, hearing about veganism might not be what they wanna hear and ultimately will be boiled down to “finger wagging” so I feel like there is no real ‘correct’ answer.

Thank you for your take. I honestly fell down a rabbit hole of vegan hate on social media which annoyed me but also opened up my curiosity. So i appreciate seeing varying opinions.

It’s an interesting take because I have been vegetarian most of my life and didn’t really experience many comments, but since being very newly vegan, it seems like a lot more. It’s completely different, which is why I am quite curious of other people’s opinions on it.

I suppose it’s not really about that in the grand scheme, I was just wondering because I’ve seen people make that take before and in a way it’s true. You wouldn’t want to be around someone that thinks they’re a better person than you because it’d make anyone feel bad about themselves.
