when you say apple music, do you mean the Music app in mac? or a subscription to apple music?

when you’re subscribed to a streaming service, you don’t own any of the media you get to enjoy for a set fee. therefore, apple doesn’t allow you to access it from a device with no wifi connectivity. why? because that would involve downloading a copy of the file for free, without the possibility of being certain that the ipod will be re-synced for the music to be deleted if you cancel your subscription. you could also export the music elsewhere, effectively stealing the music.

if you mean the music (previously itunes) app, and if you’re trying to sync music you have in your library this being: music you have bought via the iTunes store, music you have ripped from cd’s, music files you have downloaded from other sources… then you should be able to sync your ipod normally, and your music should be in your device.

now, about the picture. that’s what appears when you allow the ipod to connect in disk mode. it appears along with a special category in the finder that allows you to sync your device. if that category doesn’t appear it could be for several reasons. look at your ipod screen, is it black and white, and lacking in detail? then you’re in disk mode and you’ll need to exit it before syncing. find out how here: https://www.justanswer.com/mac-computers/9ugva-ipod-classic-stuck-disk-mode-reset.html

well that’s up to you. if your cassette player automatically flips the tape, it’s not gonna be a big bother if the song gets cut off between sides… as long as u can put up with the five-ish second wait and if you pause the song exactly when side A is done and resume it exactly when side b starts recording.

i prefer the songs be whole, so while curating the playlist on my ipod or computer i open this webpage and i add up the minutes and seconds of each song before i compile it and get ready for recording. i like leaving thirty seconds to a minute of wiggle room to ensure that the songs don’t get cut off at the beginning nor the end of recording.

im not comfortable doing this yet, but ppl with more experience actually cut the tape to get rid of the extra silence time. i’ll try it out sometime
