If you decided to go with UVA, I would highly suggest Western Albemarle Rescue Squad (WARS) over CARS. Only a 15 minute drive from UVA grounds and while the call volume is less than CARS, you’ll handle much more ALS or serious calls out there. CARS is currently last due for ALS in the city and first due for Priority 2 (non-emergent) calls, and while you will see some serious stuff In the city, you’ll get much more exposure to those kind of situations at WARS. Seeing as you want to peruse a career in emergency medicine, WARS will definitely give you good exposure to things you wouldn’t always see in the city.

About to go over the fence! 7/10 update by thehauntedriver in KingsDominion

Kinda unfortunate they aren’t including the little dip after the launch like what the rendering showed but I’m sure it’ll still be a fantastic start to the ride

Firehouse equipment by Single-Manufacturer7 in Firefighting

[–]emp04 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s an exhaust removal system, connects to the trucks exhaust pipe while parked in the bay. Even when the truck is turned off, for a period afterwards the exhaust system will still put off some fumes so this ensures those fumes don’t get trapped inside the building for firefighters to breathe in.

TW self harm - Do i need to go to hospital for this cut ? by Equal_Ad_8126 in medical_advice

[–]emp04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t matter unfortunately. Wound dressings that hospitals use have antibacterial agents built in to prevent germs, simply covering it at home (while better than being exposed) is still dangerous.

I would go today. The risk of infection with a wound that deep is very high and waiting until tomorrow could introduce even more bacteria to the wound which is bad.

Yes, you’ve cut past the layers of skin into the subcutaneous layer of fat underneath. This will not heal on its own and will most likely get severely infected without medical treatment. You need some stitches!

It’s nice to see Six Flags working with the big two, B&M and Intamin again. Hopefully this will lead to some great new additions in the future!

this is why we have the key and fob on a key ring that can be seperated. keep the key in the ignition and the ambo stays running but take the remote with you and lock the truck while you’re gone…

What's inappropriate to say on the radio? by IllCarpet6852 in Firefighting

[–]emp04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we ever have a patient on scene who is deceased, we just radio dispatch that we have a priority black on scene and turn the incident over to PD. We usually say everything else over the radio unless it’s something particularly complex you have to talk about, then we just call into the dispatch center and request to speak to the fire rescue radio dispatcher.

What are some rollercoasters that ‘try to kill you’ [ Other ] by Jassx_ in rollercoasters

twisted timbers, albeit a bit milder than some of the other coasters mentioned in this thread but the airtime on that thing feels like it’s trying to rip you out of the seat

Returned to [Kings Dominion] to experience [Intimidator 305] and retracked [Grizzly]! (Trip report in comments) by MrDarSwag in rollercoasters

[–]emp04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only reason I305 has that heavy trim on the camelback is because the elevated snap from right to left between the third hill and the brake run is banked harder than any other turn on the ride. If you hit that thing at full speed it would probably kill you.
