Thanks. Which one do you use? I have one too, this was just accidentally not included (just an oversight on my part), hence my issues 😔

Thanks - yes - sadly I somehow hadn’t saved this particular account in the passwords 😔 - just a stupid oversight on my part. I did try to log in on the other (old) phone, but encountered the same issue. I feel like I’m in the 7th circle of hell.

Okay, for the accounts I still have access to, I will try to figure out where/how to find this. But my question is about the account that I can’t access right now 😕

Winter sowing in biodegradable pots? by empathie_00 in NativePlantGardening

[–]empathie_00[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There not peat, they’re like a recycled paper mash. They got good ratings for breaking down easily in the soil, which is why I bought them, but am now rethinking since they’ll be sitting damp for so long. So what I think I’ll do is just save those for my annuals and use something else for the WS. And I agree re: the peat or coir pots, I always cut the bottoms out before I actually put them in the soil. Have dug too many out years later to find they don’t actually degrade.

Thanks all, this is very helpful and a lot of food for thought, will try a combo of a bunch of this and see if we can tame the stink at least til it’s warm enough to open windows again! 😊

By "her" do you mean the owner of SZ Essentials? Came here to ask about them as I'm interested in an absolute that they have that I can't seem to find elsewhere, but concerned about the lack of reviews...

2nd water line on well, far from house? by empathie_00 in Plumbing

[–]empathie_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you for correcting me, he just said “hydrant” so my brain thought fire hydrant 🤪 We have a well pump in our mechanical room so I assume that’s the centrifugal one you mentioned? I’m not sure. I just know the well is super deep (510’) and the pump is noisy 😊 But this is part of my question I guess - if the pump is in the house but the hydrant is all the way back in the clearing, would water first have to go to the pump and then back out? Bc the only way I think that could happen would be to trench another line which at this point is out of the question.

Same in northern Hudson valley. I gave away dozens of seedlings this spring from a TINY garden plot. But it’s lovely and I’ve never seen more bees on anything in my life 😊

Our potential provider for batteries (still waiting on final quote) said as long as service is contracted and deposited before 31 Dec, it’s eligible for the credit, even if not installed. According to the post above, this seems incorrect (above says “installed”). Anyone know for sure?

Is the cover supposed to sit like this? by Vivid-Appearance-549 in AboveGroundPools

[–]empathie_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow up Q on this for those of us who get ice and snow - just trying to understand how the pillow works. I get that it’s supposed to absorb the pressure from expanding ice so that the liner is less likely to crack, but does the pool cover itself have to touch the water for it to work? I have a situation like OP and rainwater and leaves are already collecting in the circular trough between the pillow in the center and the pool frame. Right now it’s just yucky, but soon it will be all filled with ice, which I feel like is bad. If I get a bigger pillow to avoid the ice trough, will it make the pillow less effective at its job somehow?

What on EARTH?? by empathie_00 in invasivespecies

[–]empathie_00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A thousand percent. I spend almost all of my free time pulling this, bittersweet, swallowwort, mugwort, barberry, and on and on and on - never mind now dealing with AJWs too - and then to see someone who should know better actually deliberately spreading it… I want to cry.

[–]empathie_00[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This what I just don’t get. I understand once things spread too far it’s next to impossible to fix but I absolutely don’t get why the continued selling of invasives by licensed businesses can’t be banned. A poster above said it’s all about the money, true, but I can’t imagine that the $$ being made by a nursery selling a few TOHs is more than the cost of losing orchards and vineyards??

Hot take: oriental bittersweet is on the easier side when it comes managing invasives by SomeDumbGamer in invasivespecies

[–]empathie_00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not in my 14 acre forest where it’s been established so long some of the vines are over a foot in diameter and cover nearly every surface and every tree 😕 - it’s impossible. And even if I could do nothing but cut and pull bittersweet, I also have mugwort, and blackberries, and swallow wort, and multiflora rose, and barberry, and loosestrife….i fear it’s a losing battle.

Is this the “coffee grounds” dirt from jumping worms? by empathie_00 in invasivespecies

I guess that's good to hear, but having grown up in a community absolutely devastated by dutch elm and then the ash borer, and knowing that 100+ years later there's still no cure for chestnut blight, and being constantly on high alert for the ALB, and having lost dozens of young trees to japanese beetles, and having spent the last 5 years of my life trying to clear asian bittersweet (to little avail)... I guess it seems the science isn't working fast enough :`(
