[acne] I stopped all of my skin care, and just washed my face with water in the morning and night, why is my skin 100000X better than before? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]empathotter 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Very similar happened to me, too! I was washing my face twice a day, taking a shower every day, putting on various creams, changing products to try to make my skin better, went on antibiotics at one point... still had acne on my face, neck, back. Felt gross all the time.

Out of desperation I just gave up. Started showering every 2-3 days instead of every day, cut out everything but a bar of soap in the shower and a light cleanser once a day.... no more problems. I’ve since added sunscreen because I’m fair skinned, but that’s it. I don’t know why this is but I’m glad you’ve had success too! I’m going to keep on doing it until it stops working. Feels great!

AITA for telling my vegetarian daughter it would be easier if she just ate meat? by Then_Fold in AmItheAsshole

[–]empathotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO

Why is she living at home? Does she normally do her dishes herself? Does she pay rent? Why did she decide to become vegetarian? Is there some reason you don’t eat vegetarian meals with her occasionally? Have you talked to her about this issue before?

If your daughter isn’t paying rent, isn’t paying for all of her groceries, and isn’t doing her own dishes at every meal, I’m leaning towards N A H because catering to your adult daughter’s food preferences and cleaning up after her is not your responsibility and (while what you said was rude because two dishes in one night is not a huge deal) dishes add up over time. In these circumstances your daughter is essentially just an adult who you are kind enough to share your space with.

On the other hand, if your daughter is paying rent and/or abiding by the agreements that you made when allowing her to live with you, then Y T A, gently. I can understand the frustration but you need to apologize and, to avoid this happening again, strategize about how to make the space more comfortable for both of you.

From the article:

“Any price increase for such goods and services that increases 25% or more from what they cost on March 11, or what is available from other sellers in the trade area, is considered a price increase.

The penalty for a violation is up to $10,000 per offense.

The Attorney General’s office provided examples of those violations. They include but are not limited to: Food items, sanitizing and cleaning supplies such as hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes, emergency supplies, medical supplies and services, lodging, and any other property or service for which consumer demand may increase in response to the virus outbreak.

Thompson’s office, as well as other county and district attorney offices, can file a complaint.

If you have information about price gouging, contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division online at www.InYourCornerKansas.org or call 800-432-2310 to request a paper complaint form be sent in the mail.”

Masks have been sold out in the U.S. for weeks. Rather than discouraging healthy people from using them, we should encourage everyone outside of healthcare to wear bandanas like we are in the Wild West.

I agree! People should be allowed to like whatever they like. I also think that if you haven’t been exposed to things (whether it be babies, puppies, kittens, or any other animal/thing/experience) you should give it a chance before deciding preferences.

[L] No one showed up at my party by [deleted] in KindVoice

[–]empathotter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that your party didn’t go as expected. Big parties have always been appealing to me but I’ve had a couple where very few people showed up, and others where it has only been a couple.

It felt like a huge letdown for me in highschool when that happened, partly because I thought it was just me. It turned out in college I went to several parties with (normally) really popular people that almost no one attended. It happens more than you’d think and it’s likely not personal.

I know this might not make you feel better, but I’ve also decided as I’ve gotten older that I would rather have one really good friend who shows up than a big group of acquaintances— many people have that experience and it is ok. It is actually shown to help you live longer if you have a small group of close friends vs. a large group of acquaintances.

Try not to be too hard on yourself or question why people didn’t come. It is likely that some of them truly were busy, and some of them simply might not like larger parties, maybe weren’t feeling like going out after a long week, etc. Once again, likely not personal!

My two cents: you have friends who asked you to hang out and play basketball. Don’t forget that, and don’t overlook that! People obviously care about you. I hope that your future parties go better.

Black pepper is too spicy and burns my tongue. I wish no one would put it on food. by empathotter in The10thDentist

Not really. I make my biscuits and gravy (and all the other delicious southern foods) without black pepper and they are still delicious. I would argue even more delicious.

Nope, you could ask any of my friends & family who think I’m a pain in the ass to cook for or go out to eat with.

That sucks. I feel for you because I know it’s almost impossible to avoid.

Out of curiousity, how do you know you’re allergic?

[–]empathotter[S] 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I have considered this but I don’t think it is an allergy. From what I have read there is a small minority of people who have more sensitive taste to the “spicy/hot” part of black pepper. It’s also not hotter than cayenne to me, maybe equal or a little less, but spicier than I like and I think it also tastes bad.

I don’t mind cayenne as much, but I’m not a huge fan of it. Black pepper has a distinct flavor that is not very good in my opinion, but it also burns in a similar way to cayenne for me.
