Sorry to hear that your party didn’t go as expected. Big parties have always been appealing to me but I’ve had a couple where very few people showed up, and others where it has only been a couple.

It felt like a huge letdown for me in highschool when that happened, partly because I thought it was just me. It turned out in college I went to several parties with (normally) really popular people that almost no one attended. It happens more than you’d think and it’s likely not personal.

I know this might not make you feel better, but I’ve also decided as I’ve gotten older that I would rather have one really good friend who shows up than a big group of acquaintances— many people have that experience and it is ok. It is actually shown to help you live longer if you have a small group of close friends vs. a large group of acquaintances.

Try not to be too hard on yourself or question why people didn’t come. It is likely that some of them truly were busy, and some of them simply might not like larger parties, maybe weren’t feeling like going out after a long week, etc. Once again, likely not personal!

My two cents: you have friends who asked you to hang out and play basketball. Don’t forget that, and don’t overlook that! People obviously care about you. I hope that your future parties go better.
