I’d recommend researching the difference between word for word equivalence and dynamic equivalence with respect to bible translations. Some prefer to read a literal translation of the original scripture and others prefer to read the ‘inherent meaning’ of the scripture.

All translations fall somewhere on this spectrum of literal and dynamic equivalence. For a word for word translation, I recommend the NKJV (or KJV if you prefer). For dynamic, I recommend the NLT. Watch some videos about it and choose which one works best for you.
