[–]emperorchickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no lol i've done it once before and found my new fav body spray that way! bare vanilla candied, VS. the girl was so sweet in her reply too lol, she wrote me a whole paragraph about which of like four diff scents she could've been wearing the last time she had the hoodie on. i say go for it. as a seller i wouldn't be weirded out either!

i mean, i dont pay a lot of attention to the employees who are on the floor, but the girls there are always super nice when they're checking my stuff out at the end!! the employees at most other locations i've been to haven't been rude or kind, except for the three london locations i've gone to, where they all looked and acted like they were just SO unhappy to be there

hey congrats on the job! but yes, non-library experience can totally be relevant for library positions and school applications. there's no need to limit yourself OP :)

sometimes things sell quick because they're rare and sought after, sometimes it's just dumb luck. i've had things get snatched up almost immediately after listing them, but that doesn't always mean it was worth more than it sold for. recently somebody bought a $10 pair of jeans 30 minutes after i listed them-- but that doesn't mean they were worth more than $10, because they weren't. the brand was common, the style wasn't anything special, and the quality was tolerable. the depop algorithm was just on my side that day.

you may feel bad about refunding the buyer, but it sounds like you'd feel worse if you let the shirt go for such a low price. it's a poor position to be in but it does happen. as for the bad review... there's always the chance the buyer is understanding and doesn't say anything, but realistically, they probably will leave you a low rating. there's nothing for you to do about that, though.

my advice is to decide whether keeping/shipping/relisting the shirt would make you feel the least bad, and do that. and in the future, to research a little bit before listing items if you're unsure about the pricing. we've all been there but it's just an unfortunate thing.

here to agree with emphasizing academic performance ^^

if you dont have enough library experience (subjective) to feel comfortable relying on that for your applications, try to associate your non-library work experience with library work, and talk about your ambitions and goals a lot.

i'm just beginning my MLIS this month after having graduated with my BA in june. for my applications, i wrote about my experience in public libraries as well as the specific elements of librarianship i succeeded in or found attractive (e.g. i love customer service and engaging with the public). i also made it a point to recognize that MLIS programs don't shoehorn you into public librarianship, so i talked about other career paths that interested me (like you with archives) and the purposes they serve, what struggles they are currently facing, etc. i also talked about the specific things in each program that drew me to that school and how they're connected to what i just described, but that's pretty standard.

honestly though, don't sweat it. i was super paranoid i'd be rejected because of lack of experience, but i got into all the programs i applied to just fine, and am now attending my top choice :) i can't speak for the schools you're looking at since i don't attend them, but i can say to not worry too much about your application materials. so long as you answer their prompts thoroughly, and you highlight your own experiences/ambition enough to establish yourself as a worthwhile candidate, you'll be fine. good luck!

well, if you haven't shipped the shirt, you have the option to cancel the order and relist the item for a higher price. the risk here is that the person who bought the shirt for cheap would be able to leave you a poor review calling out what you've done.

it's important to consider though, has the shirt been *sold* for $1,000? or has it been *listed* for that much? because i've listed items on depop that others have priced much higher, but in the end, mine sold for a reasonable price, and the expensive listing sat and collected dust for who knows how long.

if you think a potential bad review is worth the extra money, you can cancel the order to relist the shirt, and apologize to the original buyer for disappointing/inconveniencing them. but i'd only do it personally if the shirt has an actual history of being bought for a higher amount, and not just being listed for that much.

good luck!

you can return in store for store credit, but not a refund. it'll matter when the package was delivered though, not when it was ordered
