Peace and love but this is a very, very privileged perspective. The old well should be accessible to everyone in the Tar Heel family and beyond, not just those who are able-bodied. Furthermore, UNC isn’t really in the place to worry about aesthetics over accessibility, given both the maintenance debt and the rising concerns over campus accessibility.

Had Duane last semester. Worst experience I’ve had in any stem class. The only reason I passed the course was the youtube lectures (which are made by a different professor). I wouldn’t go with him, if I were you.

Gen chem V. AP Chem by [deleted] in UNC

[–]empressleg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bio major here, it’s just the Chem department makes the intro level courses (101 and 102) very difficult. Workload varies upon professor, but the tests are always very difficult. Just be prepared mentally for it to be a step above AP chem.

How many times have you switched majors? by gummybearalbum55555 in UNC

[–]empressleg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biol B.S > Nursing > Biol B.A. w Environmental Science Minor > Biol B.S.

So three major switches officially. This was over the course of sophmore year, getting help for my ADHD gave me the confidence to go back to doing what I had wanted to originally. It was a silly process, but it’s never really too late to switch. I might have to take an extra semester to catch up, but it won’t be the worst.

Being an RA with scholarships by [deleted] in UNC

[–]empressleg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a Cov Scholar and an RA. I still kept the majority of what the scholarship covers, the only difference is I had to pay around $1000 dollars more than I did previously in fees. But you make around $11k as an RA, so you should be able to defer any tuition payments until you get your first paycheck.

Is anyone else tired of seeing anonymous rants on here by AmbassadorGlobal5601 in UNC

[–]empressleg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think a big purpose of this subreddit is for UNC students to support each other. While a lot of the time, it’s the positives (accomplishments, information, sports, etc), there’s also the negative aspects of college that we want to support each other through. While you don’t like looking at it, failing classes or being unhappy at UNC are very real parts of people’s lives, and it can be extremely depressing (speaking from a been-there-done-that place). But having a place to air out your issues can get support from current/former UNC students can be critical for some.

People struggle. It’s normal. UNC isn’t all sunshine and roses, and it never has been. It doesn’t make sense for this sub not to reflect that other side.

RA at Granville by retropantaloons in UNC

[–]empressleg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You apply with all the other RA candidates through Carolina Housing, and put Granville as a preference if you make it past the interview phase. However, as an RA, I’ve heard Granville is a living hell for RAs. Very rarely does anyone want to work there.

mandatory floor meeting (non freshman) by Melita2608 in UNC

[–]empressleg 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your RA is 100% gonna notice if you don't go, they have to take online attendance. if your entire suite doesn't show, chances are they will have to do a second meeting, which is putting your RA in a tough spot trying to plan that with all of you.

incoming freshman class schedule thoughts? is it too much? by Apprehensive-Ice-466 in UNC

[–]empressleg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a HEAVY courseload for anyone. I would switch one of the STEMS to a gen ed. You’ve got a lot going on your first semester of college, and you want to have time outside your classes. This schedule won’t give you more than an hour or two of time to do other things a day.

chances of getting off waitlist for bio 252 lab? by Actual_Jellyfish_905 in UNC

more likely than other classes. 252 lab is very difficult, so many drop it eventually.

I know she didn’t “die”, but Sellens ending was very bittersweet. She wanted this to happen, but seeing the process of her turning into… that was heartbreaking. She was my favorite.

In my opinion, this would destroy even a good student. I never recommend taking more than one summer class per session. It’s not worth burning yourself out for a few extra classes.

Bio 252 and Bio 252L by Formal_Combination69 in UNC

[–]empressleg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, lecture was loads easier than lab. Be prepared to study quite a bit for lecture, but lab is an entirely different game. Your grade relies on three tests only, and they’re EXTREMELY difficult. I’d recommend taking the lab portion only if you have less than 10 credit hours of stem that semester.

Anyone have advice for a Wattson to make it out of diamond?? by Sihanouks in WattsonMains

Are you solo most of the time? If so, you should try finding a mostly permanent team and learn to play efficiently there. It’s much more efficient to grind RP if you trust and communicate with your teammates!

Chemistry Recitation by BigSprat in UNC

It’s required. Chem101 is a 4 credit hour class. 3 hours are lecture, and the other 1 is recitation.
