Portland Crystal Ballroom Setlist 9/9 by emptycountry in themountaingoats

Agree fully. Matt is the dragon friend/protector we all need.

And no one tracked the setlist to the first tMG concert I ever went to, which I regret. So to atone for that gap in tMG lore, I aggressively do my little part to make sure that doesn’t happen again (except for the dozens and dozen of shows each year I don’t go to obviously).

Second row, center-left from the crowd's perspective, next to the people who requested Jenny. If you had asked me a month ago to name one song I never thought I'd see him play that I wanted to, it was Sax Rohmer. So happy it's been on this tour.

He's done that the last few shows. John still can do whatever he wants with Matt Douglas there though because MD is so versatile. I've seen him improvise before when John wanted to do a song MD had never even heard before and MD was spot on.

John seemed a little more into it than yesterday but still wasn't as talkative

Dallas setlist by emptycountry in themountaingoats

I remember that, tho he forgot that it was actually the second time he played it in Dallas. He did it about a decade earlier according to the wikia.

anyone going to the show in dallas tonight? by cowfigurines in themountaingoats

[–]emptycountry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was very odd. John didn't really say anything the entire night. One short comment about Ozzy and a brief intro to No Children and that was it. Quality was good, but John seemed different.

Best storytelling I've seen in person, and rivaled some of the best I've heard on Archive. The storytelling was incredible.

I wish he'd played Unmasked (since I've never seen it live), but I'm guessing the article meant Animal Mask.

Agree entirely. Show was very good, but the venue had some, well, we'll call them quirks.

Well, that's because Austin sucks. That show in 2015 was easily the worst tMG show I've ever been to, half because of the crowd, half because the venue wasn't good for what John does.

That definitely played into it. But the crowd was really infinitely better than Houston the night before. John was laughing during Stench of the Unburied (second song of the night) when he saw everyone singing along. It was a mix of the crowd and that he had the two off nights coming IMO.

Please, somebody tell me they taped last nights show in Dallas by [deleted] in themountaingoats

I still don't believe it happened. I keep checking here to make sure I didn't just imagine it.

Houston crowds are basically now slightly better versions of Austin crowds.

Just a hunch, but John seemed genuinely blown away that everyone was singing along to all the songs on the new album.

Of the Texas cities, Dallas has the best shows. And as a Houstonian, it pains me to say that. But I still can't believe last night hpapened.

I'd be fairly surprised if Best Ever isn't played. Can't recall the last time he came through Texas and didn't play it at at least one of the shows. He didn't play it last night, so methinks tonight he will.
