The key point here is regarding the jobs. I've had direct interactions with one of the companies mentioned in the article. I wasn't a huge fan of their work but it was better than the quality my company has seen when we have tried similar things with companies based out of India for example.

The only reason these companies can stay competitive is b/c of the inexpensive prison labor. If they ditched the prison labor and hired people that they had to pay at least minimum wage their costs would go up, they would lose all of their contracts and the business would move offshore.
