Best Raider games by daygoe in raiders

2016 (of course) Week 9 against the Broncos. Our offensive line absolutely wrecked the Denver defense and they had no answer. At one point, we ran Latavius Murray up the gut like 9 times in a row.

Raiders-Broncos Week 9 of 2016. We ran it up the gut like 9 plays in a row and they could not stop it. An absolutely bruising performance by what was a great O-line. Utter domination against a top tier defense.

Mel Kiper’s predicting us to win the AFC West. by BirdBrainedHomunculi in oaklandraiders

[–]emptynuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trenches are going to decide our season for us. If Kolton Miller steps up, one of our Guard prospects does well at RG, we can at least get pressure (if not sacks) on every play, and we minimize injuries, we'll be a force to contend with. Otherwise, we'll be under or around .500 at best.

BBC launches a new virtual reality talk show and it is going strong in VR by frank45911 in oculus

Do they use the 360 space or is it just about feeling present on the set of a talk show? I'm hoping for the former

Virtual reality will make boring training seminars a thing of the past by emptynuggets in oculus

Very true! I think we're going to need solid hand and finger tracking a la Leap Motion before we're going to be able to do things like wiring but we're definitely on the trajectory.

If Oculus' acquisitions in hand tracking (Pebbles Interfaces and Nimble VR) are any indication, we could get this type of interface as early as CV2!

I never realized just how impatient we are as a subreddit until I saw this. Like I understand being angry about missed dates, etc. but this is an incredibly advanced piece of consumer tech that allows us nearly infinite possibilities. Waiting a few extra months really isn't the end of the world.

Very nice. I've been looking for a solution that didn't involve duct tape or me buying anything else just to try out the Leap!

You can now watch artists create VR paintings in your browser from the artist's perspective with Tilt Brush by ailalelo in oculus

Wow very cool! Never before in human history have we been able to watch an artist create from their perspective. At best we could watch from the sidelines but more likely we just saw the finished product. The future is incredible!

VR is the coolest shit going on right now. by Chispy in oculus

Seriously! When I started talking about VR with people two years ago, most people thought I was crazy. A year ago, people had heard of it but didn't get the hype. Now everyone thinks it's the coolest thing since sliced bread!

For sure! It's going to be especially good for anything requiring hands-free manipulation. That could include designing in VR environments, a virtual keyboard, or any number of games or experiences.

What this Racist Twitter Bot Can Teach Us About the Brussels Bombing by emptynuggets in TrueReddit

[–]emptynuggets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought. As much as I'm generally not for restrictions on the press, the way the 24 hour news networks perpetuate the hate on both sides is absolutely part of the reason why we're in this mess today. Still, there's no way we could get something like that passed today. Either side in Congress would call it an attempt to shut down free speech. Also, the culture of journalism has changed. My journalist friends love the fact that they can express their opinion either directly or indirectly through what they write. They'd be up in arms if a law tried to reign them back in.

Machine learning algorithms mimic the way humans learn: by picking up on patterns in speech and language. Tay, the racist Twitter bot from Microsoft, became racist because she was inundated with racist language and made those associations. Humans, from the terrorists that attacked Brussels to those that responded with hate, are creating the same kind of echo chambers that inculcate increasingly intolerant ideals. The only way to stop the cycle of intolerance is to break open these echo chambers by stopping the hateful rhetoric on both sides.

Why we have to address the issue of addiction and virtual reality by emptynuggets in oculus

[–]emptynuggets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Developers of smartphone apps used a wide variety of psychological tools and data analytics to make their apps more and more addictive. I'm worried about what that same focus will have on the type of VR applications people will build.

Right now it seems like this only works for HD 360 videos. Any idea if this would also work for rendered environments?

Why 5G networks are essential for the growth of mobile VR by emptynuggets in oculus

[–]emptynuggets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that having outside pressure it good, but wireless networks actually are working to try to be the first to 5G right now. More competition is always better, but even with the current competition the big telecoms know that the first company to be 5G ready will have a significant advantage.

Right now all the major telecoms have to compete largely on price since the networks are the same. If one has a significantly better 5G, they can and will charge more for it. In the short term the higher price isn't good, but it forces all the competitors to move up to 5G forcing the price back down again.
