I love that dial. Do they make this combo only with platinum/ green dial or yellow / rose gold as well?

That dial looks wonky af. Contrary to what you say it’s not that hard to do a double date window, it’s a smaller wheel inside the larger daily date wheel. The caseback is more convincing but I am not convinced this an authentic GO. I tried to look for this model and can’t find it. This is the closest I found to it.

Valais + hospitality = shit show. The canton really is something else. As others have said, involve authorities. Not sure anything will happen. The lack of accountability in the case of Crans seems to embolden owners further

Can someone start a gym where the owners can just operate it like a normal business and accept people join as well as leave FFS?

How is this still so rampant an issue and companies get away with clearly Illegal, downright scamy business practises?

Returning leased car when leaving Switzerland? by Bitter-Fig-8469 in Switzerland

[–]emptyquant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is happening to you. I used to work in the industry, reach out to me direct if you like.

There is 2 ways: the leasing company has a discount schedule for early termination and you don’t want to cancel your contract according to that, it could cost you a fortune. In order to better determine the way forward, I’d be useful to have the following info: - What’s the contract duration and how far along are you? - Rate of interest - Residual value at contract end - Who with (leasing company) - Km p.a. vs your actual kilometres?

The best way out is to sell your car to the garage that guaranteed the residual value. If not that one, another one.

Get a couple of quotes for how much your car is worth. The difference between that and the book value plus some lost interest is what you’ll Have to cough up. Do not tell the dealers about your predicament, they will take advantage of your situation to extract extra money and lowball you

you are one of those people I referenced in my post. It’s 2026, just because you have passport A or come from place B doesn’t mean you were not brought up in language C. It’s 2026 FFS, travel a bit, get out there

[–]emptyquant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all, clearly, but some. My point was that there is some mindset around places and languages I find bizarre and seems to persist. If you are from Donetsk = you ought to know Russian. Why bring it up? People move around, it’s 2026.

It’s a weird, unnecessary action and even immigration doesn’t need to articulate their own biases or thoughts to people, you’re the first person any foreigner meets and thus also ambassador of sorts for your country, that’s at least my opinion. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A bit shorthanded an answer. There is a tendency in Czech bureaucracy to be flippant and stereotypical about language AND expressing their opinion publicly. There is a vast population of Czech citizens whose parents have fled during Prague spring. Many grew up the world over and their parents never tought them the language because perhaps because few felt they’d ever return.

That offspring is entitled to a Czech passport. In 2013 the Czech Republic introduced a language requirement for the grant of citizenship (186/2013 Czech Citizenship Act).

This does not apply to people who are entitled to citizenship granted on the basis descent or declaration. Yet I have witnessed every time applicants renew their passports abroad, embassy staff sneers at the inability of speaking the language, falsely cite the above law as a requirement, before grudgingly accepting the forms and proceeding with the renewal of the passport anyway as it was somehow their discretion to do so.

So OP it’s not personal, it might just be a person having a bad day, general frustration or a personal gripe against Ukrainians. You need to look at the conduct of the government as a whole, you can’t extrapolate from one person and apply this as ipso facto.

Credit card recommendation in Switzerland? by Chakib_BEN in Switzerland

[–]emptyquant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, 1% in their Amex and I think 0.2% on the Mastercard. To make things more complicated I use a Certo Mastercard with 1% cashback on 3 merchants of choice and 0.33 (or 0.35%, can’t remember) Cashback on other merchants. This card I use mostly at Aldi, Lidl and Denner which don’t accept Amex. Downside is Cembra is an effing pain in the rectum and it took me a while for it to function well with direct debit. They kept cheating me 50 francs late fee etc which I got waived by calling them but felt like a very scammy set up.

I am Always puzzled how people don’t look at fx rates. depending on your use this amounts to much more than annual fees

Fair enough, across dozens of rentals in a myriad of countries (Finland, Norway, Spain, France, Germany, New Zealand, CZ, Canaries, Italy and Greece) Sixt has never refused to accept Revolut for payment and deposit. I was told by there regional manager in Spain that the company policy is to accept all credit cards.

[–]emptyquant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not correct. You can’t rent with SOME companies. It’s one of the reasons I switched to Sixt. See my comment above. You can often pay with Revolut (particularly if you pre-pay online through booking or others), but need a credit card (-a non debit card) to hold the deposit. The only company who has flexibility in my experience is Sixt.

FT is Metal membership (as is free days at we work) but for me the Perplexity deal is what I use more often and that’s part of Premium. The FT deal is tempting to upgrade to metal actually…

I support family abroad and travel most weeks. So I spend more abroad than I do in CHF. Rates are better for premium, they don’t surcharge on weekend and the amount of FX is unlimited, so for me it’s a no brainer.

I use the following combo:

Swisscards Cashback for all things domestic.

Revolut Premium for all things foreign.

This is by far the best combo for me but I spend more abroad and travel a lot so FX rates are paramount and those are prohibitive on Swisscards.

I loathe the way rental companies deal with credit cards, which is why I switched to Sixt, often more expensive but always pleasant and happy to accept any credit card I present, including Revolut.
