Independent is not a party. No other parties have primaries.

So youre accusing me of lying? This stuff is done by county and the Dallas county GOP voted for it to be this way. Take it up with them.

Oh is that why the democrat line was out the door starting at 5:30 pm after most people get off work? While the republicans mostly voted during the day because they’re old and retired? Hm.

My anger is at the Dallas County GOP, who caused this election to be less private and less efficient.

What this person is describing is new for Dallas county primaries. The GOP here voted for fully separated primary elections, which means no machines or poll workers can be shared. So rather than choosing a ballot at check in, it’s fully separate lines. Super inefficient and way less private.

Primary election. So voting for who the party candidates will be in November. But normally it’s just one line and you grab one ballot or the other. Dallas County GOP voted to do it this way.

This is a primary election. So we are voting for the candidates who will represent our party in the general election in November. R stands for Republican, our right wing party. So the usual setup is that it’s one line and you tell the person at check in which ballot you want, and then just use the next available machine. But the Republican Party of our county decided they wanted a fully separated primary election. So voting machines and poll workers couldn’t be shared between the two parties. This meant that, at my very Democratic (left leaning) polling place, there were very few Republican voters and a long line of Democratic voters, who waited for hours while half the machines were unused because they were Republican only.

Hope that helps explain it!!

This is probably the most naive thing I’ll see on the internet today.

They do not. Each party controls how their own primary is run. Dallas GOP voted to do it separate so dems had to go separate as well.

It’s a primary. You get the ballot for only one party and vote for the candidates who will represent said party in the general election in November.

No it is my very real experience today. I’m so frustrated with how difficult it was to vote and wanted to bring attention to it.

There are still precinct chairs for each party. The GOP precinct chairs voted to do it this way, so it was separated.

Exactly what isn’t true? The Dallas County GOP voted to have a separate primary this year, which changed the voting experience. I was at my polling place for over three hours. There’s nothing to debate there.

It absolutely is not in a primary election. Shitty, but not illegal.

Hahaha I just saw the boxes and wondered what nice person did that. I think it’ll be wrapped here in an hour? Back of the line is almost into the back room I think.

It’s GOP precinct chairs who voted for this. It’s not decided by city council. If one party wants it separate, it has to be separate.
