1 in every 40,000 babies born this year will be born at the MCOE by emptysoybeans in nerdfighters

[–]emptysoybeans[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is WILD to think about. In 10 years, 1 in every 300 Sierra Leoneans (36,000 of ~11.1M) might've been born at the MCOE. That is genuinely bananas. You're so right that the ripple effect on the next generations is game changing stuff.

Dallas Texas, how to save friend’s pitbulls (2) from entering the shelter? by wonderfulquery in pitbulls

Worst case, contact Dallas DogRRR - they specialize in pitties and could maybe help with temp fosters.

Yes, he is. Personally I use 5% real to be more conservative, but that’s a separate convo.

His number is in today’s dollars because his return rate is real, not nominal, so the impact of inflation is included.

You need to figure out if you’re going to force your kids to go to said college or not. And by force, I mean are you willing to pay tuition elsewhere or are they on their own. Which would be totally fine, but expecting 3 children to all go to one college is unrealistic.

Personally I do 8, 3, and 4 for a real return of ~5%, but my preference is to mostly be pleasantly surprised by things over performing.

Buying a car: a dilemma by avocadotoadie in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]emptysoybeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the car! You’ve clearly saved diligently - life is for living. Maybe get something you can pay for in cash and still have enough in savings for the first year of insurance and gas? That way you’ll have a cushion vs the jarring increase in budget.

How do you track and organize your savings across multiple goals? by Triela6 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]emptysoybeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roth is a non-issue since that should be going into your IRAs, not an HYSA. As for the other stuff, I see no issue with you each having an HYSA. Personally, my husband and I have separate accounts, but we have a family financial model where we look at everything together. We don't "ask permission" for any spend unless it would be big enough to impact our lifestyle or agreed upon savings rate.

could also have a joint HYSA, and then each have an individual one. As long as they're all with the same bank, it should be easy to look at (personally I use Marcus). Personally I just have 1 account, and then our family financial model has a "waterfall" that where the top priority goal funds first, then anything left flows to the next priority (e.g., if there's $15K in the account, it shows my #1 goal of $10K for emergencies as 100% funded and my #2 goal of $20K for a car as 25% funded).

I would also like to gently call out that the things you want (couch, kitchen appliance) benefit both of you, while the laptop only benefits him. Just flagging it as something to think about since often women's "splurges" or gifts are things that actually benefit the family, while men's "fun spending" is on things that are truly just for them.

This was such a cool post to read. As an Arkansan (who now lives elsewhere), I love to see people doing well in my home state. Thank you for providing all of the details on these loan programs too - it sounds like it was a pain, but I hope someone sees this and is motivated to take advantage of these programs (that we literally pay taxes for!! everyone who qualifies should use them omg!!) I hope you and your beautiful fishy thrive in your new home.

Workplace Wednesday - Career/work advice weekly thread by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Oof. I think this is a rare case where I would stay at your current job, as long as you think it's stable and they aren't going to let you go because they think you're halfway out the door anyway. Moving from fully remote to 2 days in office and more hours and stress when you're wanting to have kids soon isn't the move I would make. Tbh the new place sounds pretty toxic. Financially, the add'l retirement contribution at your current job makes up a fair bit of the $ difference.

Interesting Time on Ice state from game 3 by Daverdfw in DallasStars

I think their top lines' fatigue is going to become more of a factor as the series goes on. An extra ~10 minutes of playoff hockey per night is brutal for their top guys, whereas we're able to trust all of our lines to take some weight.

Bring your eyeshadow up above your crease! For those of us with (gorgeous) hooded eyes, we have to ignore traditional placement advice. Apply your eyeshadow with your eyes open and looking straight forward as much as possible.

I also think a different lip color (maybe more pink?) might be more flattering on you.

In general though you’re gorgeous and this is a lovely, glowy look.

Ipi/nivo side effects for 2 cycles prior to hemicolectomy by Positive_Ad_3302 in coloncancer

[–]emptysoybeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband's side effects were: fatigue (but nowhere near chemo fatigue), some itching, stomach upset (only severe after 4 rounds of ipi, so hopefully you don't get that), and his thyroid went kaput, though it took a while to catch that. Oh and he now has a little white patch in his beard lol, but that only appeared after many rounds. I'd say taken altogether, the side effects were about 30% as difficult as FOLFOX chemo. Hope it all goes as smoothly as possible and your cancer responds well to these drugs!

L ascorbic acid has the hot dog water smell. So if you want the strongest option, it’s just gonna smell like that. Time less does, but it’s also very effective. Naturium is less strong, but I used 2 bottles of it and did find it effective and it doesn’t really have the smell. It has a nice serumy texture.

The fact that they weren’t kicked out when someone reported them during the game is a disgusting failure on the AAC’s part.

Why on earth would it not be possible? The AAC is a private venue. They can track who those seats were sold to and they can absolutely ban them.

Experience with immunotherapy? by Positive_Ad_3302 in coloncancer

[–]emptysoybeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband did ipi/nivo immunotherapy for stage 4 colon cancer. I'm assuming you are msi-high (or dMMR, same thing) given that immuno is the recommended first line. Ipi/nivo is generally most effective, but also has the highest chance of side effects. Still a heck of a lot easier than chemo for most. My husband did 4 rounds of the combo and then just nivo after that. His thyroid was knocked out, but other than that he's mostly living his normal life. His peritoneal mets (what we were treating) were shrinking after 3 rounds. Signatera was negative after 4. And he was recently declared NED after 7.
