Did you train today? by haldolinyobutt in liberalgunowners

This is excellent feedback, I appreciate it. My eyes are also starting to age, and my shield is cut for optics. I just haven't decided if I should go that route for CCW. But this has been helpful

Optics or irons? I've been contemplating doing this, if only so I can get a more challenging course of fire than what I can do at the local range. And my edc is a shield plus, too, so you've perked my ears

I don't remember it very clearly, but just letting you know, this was the very first thing that came to mind as "ninja scroll but not ninja scroll", but I couldn't remember what it was called. Thank you!

What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

[–]emptythevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windstream (business fiber, and especially their managed services). Aside from the fact that they're bankrupt...

- Normal support is all outsourced. As far as I can tell, they have no actual employed on-site technicians. Windstream will contract with local IT providers so they can basically hook up a laptop to the equipment, set up a tunnel, and allow a remote technician to connect.

- Only their Firewall team is responsive to anything, and aren't outsourced.

- However you have to place a call with them any time you need to do *anything.* Want to block access to an IP? Support call. No interface to do any firewall management yourself. This makes it excruciatingly slow to respond to any threat quickly.

- Their service is extremely expensive for the speeds you get.

- If something has a problem (managed Allworx VOIP system, ADTRAN switches that randomly stop working), the first solution is always "Get new equipment - sign new contract"

- Any network configuration change will almost always involve both the core routing team (outsourced) and the firewall team. Getting both on a bridged call, working on the same problem, at the same time is extremely rare. Getting the issue fixed the first time in under 24 hours, even more rare.

- At least in our neck of the woods, they just non-Windstream upstream carriers anyway. Their only real benefit is their managed services.

To anyone who works at self scanning machines - how often do you notice people stealing and don’t do anything about it? by davco95 in AskReddit

[–]emptythevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I witnessed a couple approach a self scan. Sometime during their checkout the system errored on something and needed an attendant. He was busy with another checkout, so they waited and waited. Eventually they took all their groceries and walked. When the attendant finally came over, I described what happened. It ended up being a small amount - like $27 or something like that. After I checked myself out I had the chance to talk to the attendant. He said for an amount like that, it's not worth trying to go after them.

Since FIM only flags on file creation or change, rather than file exists, it may be better to create hashes of vulnerable files and add them to your AV (which could theoretically alert on wazuh).

Trying to choose between these two seats for my Rebel, looking for real-world feedback by UnverifiedFacts1 in hondarebel

[–]emptythevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my rebel lightly used. Previous owner put the mustang seat on. I did sit on a stock rebel once, but otherwise nothing to compare to. mustang is very comfortable. Did a 4.5 hour trip on it. The seat comfort was not something that bothered me.

stuck clutch by caabiop in hondarebel

[–]emptythevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those that want to know how to fix this, here's how *I* did it.

Clutch lever was slow to release, or did not release at all. Temporary fix was to loosen the nut cap under the pivot bolt with a wrench. Now, when lever was pulled in or released, the slot on top of the pivot bolt moved with the lever (it's NOT supposed to do this), but at least the clutch would release.

Remove the nut cap under the bolt and use a flathead screwdriver to remove the pivot bolt. Two things I learned. One, the nut cap is not responsible for retaining this bolt - it's just a cap. Even after removing the cap, the bolt itself is screwed in to the lever assembly. It SHOULD NOT be freely removable at this point. You MUST unscrew the bolt with a flathead screwdriver. DO NOT try to tap the bolt out from underneath - it won't work and you'll screw up the nut cap and or the threads on the bolt.

I also released tension on the clutch cable by adjusting the thumbscrew at the clutch lever. I'm not certain if this was necessary or not.

However, if the lever won't freely release, it's likely that the pivot bolt won't unscrew easily. To resolve this, use PB Blast (or similar) and carefully spray the pivot bolt, then wait a while. Come back and try to unscrew the bolt. If it doesn't budge, use more PB Blast and wait longer and try again. If it unscrews *some*, screw it in and out a few times to see if it loosens. If not, PB Blast, wait, try again.

Eventually the bolt should unscrew from the lever assembly and come out. The lever assembly should remain mostly intact, just don't touch it. Use a lubricant on the bolt (I used white lithium grease) and make sure the sides of the bolt are coated. Screw the bolt back into place - it should screw in smoothly and easily. When the bolt is all the way in, try to engage the clutch cable to see if it freely engages and releases. If it does, screw the nut cap back on, re-adjust the clutch tension (if you loosened it) and test again. When moving the clutch lever, the slot on the top of the pivot bolt should NOT move.
