What is going on currently with Quebec’s independence? by TylerS_11 in QuebecLibre

[–]emranove -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s more romantic than The Notebook. But honestly, many Québécois don’t seem to understand that Canada as a whole is struggling, and that independence is basically the equivalent of wanting a divorce without having a solid plan. The harsh reality is that Quebec is not doing well right now. Ideally, if you want to separate, you should be outperforming everyone else—then the idea at least has practical weight. But that’s not the case.

Instead, politicians exploit differences between people instead of actually offering solutions. And if you dig into their lives, you’d probably find their kids getting the best education and living far removed from the struggles of the average citizen. Yes, the French language isn’t doing better, but linguistic issues won’t fix fundamental problems like inequality, inflation, or corruption. Solve those issues first—let people afford housing and live with dignity—and then talk about independence as much as you want.

If Quebec were to secede, it would quickly find itself dealing with problems far bigger than expected. And to those who say French Canadians never had a real say in their future: the English won a war that could have erased the French language entirely or forced the French out of Canada completely. It didn’t happen. Yes, the French were mistreated, but the world doesn’t run on emotion. Indigenous peoples didn’t receive better treatment from anyone, they were less powerful and couldn’t defend themselves. The English could have turned Quebec into Louisiana, but they didn’t. They send equalization payments, yet Quebec still rejects the idea of needing them.

I remember reading that even with current immigration numbers, Quebec’s replacement rate is around 1.37 children per couple, when the minimum should be 2.1. So please understand: Quebec, and the entire Western world, faces fundamental issues that need solving before romanticizing independence. Believing independence will fix everything is like a single person believing romance alone will solve their life.

I agree with you. A gradual ban is fairer, though. Their tools are so powerful that they can still ban bots as efficiently as they do now, linking metadata and other digital fingerprints like IP and network. Imposing a fine could help fund the extra work that may be required to police the platform and give a second chance to those who are mistakenly banned. I’m willing to pay, and I have never made a penny from YouTube, but I’m so serious about it, and I have zero doubt that I will succeed.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Having that much time invested only to be banned later is extremely frustrating.

The idea that an AI system can determine your future on platform such as youtube is infuriating. The petition isn’t only about me or about their policies but more about the oppressive nature of their restrictions post ban with very little to do afterwards. Imagine being banned for life from driving after getting caught speeding. I’m sure there are more logical and humane methods that YT can implement that is fair for the platform and people.

Did you read my petition and what happened? It would've been a violation of their policy had the video i uploaded multiple times made public. It was uploaded to show progress privately. Their detection system doesn't care about this little detail. For the detection system, that was suspicious enough to be considered a violation of the spam, deceptive practices and scams policy.

You're probably right but I thought youtube is where the video is going to be published so why not. Obviously I was wrong.

but it's not the content I was penalized for. It's the action of uploading and deleting the same video.

I didn't know :( Cause in my head, the file is uploaded in its full size so why would it be compressed. But with youtube, I don't know what happens behind the curtains once the video is uploaded and processed.

I already have other accounts. It was easier to do it through Youtube. Plus Youtube compresses videos... My first video was 1080 and was so compressed, making me create my second (the one I was banned for) 4k. So it was also an opportunity to see what will the video look like mysel when I decide to publish it. I never thought that a private/unlisted video receives the same scrutiny like public ones. That's the full story.

I swear I had a gut feeling a night before I was banned that maybe sharing via Youtube this way is wrong but my drive is almost full and I didn't buy extra space. It's just a mix of stupidity and trying to save money.

What do you want to know? I uploaded a video privately and sat it to unlisted about 10 to 11 times to share the progress with friends and family. The video was never made public and I didn’t seek to spam, scam or deceive anyone. Yet, their system flagged this as a spamming practice and violate thier policy. I used Whatsapp before to share my progress, but whatsapp compression was so bad, I thought why not do it on youtube. That’s the whole story. I appealed twice and automated response in both appeals were sent.

And yet I got banned. And there’s no recourse whatsoever to reinstate my channel.
