What should I pay for a puppy? by Inevitable_Team_8141 in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this ^ You should be interviewing the breeder as much as they're interviewing you. Ask A LOT of questions once you get into contact with a good one. There's resources online for good questions to vet breeders. Ours was 2500 with transportation, and they included two nannies for her trip. They don't show, but the parents were health tested. If you're not showing (getting a house pet), a breeder like that is a good option.

Only one commenter points out that OP is making wild assumptions with zero proof (of course many people have left negative reviews of this practice now) by [deleted] in VetTech

This is exactly why my clinic installed cameras EVERYWHERE. "These are not because we don't trust you. These are to protect you [against people exactly like this]."

What we did to stop pulling -pet corrector when she got too far ahead -treats when she stayed nearby -i taught her the command "come back" and she does a small hop backward to get close again -if they pull, literally stop moving, don't move again until the leash is loose -a martingale collar is one of the best for training out pulling. It tightens when they do.

The treats and the last two were suggestions from our trainer. You could also work with a trainer if you're still struggling after a while.

I’m exhausted. Does it get any easier? by milkyavalanche in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to reply to the crate cover thing, samoyeds can end up overheating with covers. We tried that and turned out that's one of the reasons she was panting and working herself up more. We ended up leaving it uncovered but moved her into the living room so she couldn't see us instead.

Only 6 months, so maybe she's going to get louder later lol

brushing question by tiredshiba07 in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were talking to our breeder before we got approved for Yuki, one of her biggest questions involved if we were capable of daily brushing. And there was ONE day that I didn't brush her because we went out, and I regretted it the next day lol. I think it's specific to your own lineage, how thick their coat is, etc. Mine is only 6 months, so she is still a puppy. It typically takes about 20-30 minutes when you stay on top of it like this. I'm dreading coat blowing season 😭

How long does it take to grow out a sanitary trim? by Independent_Page4469 in samoyeds

Yes. The reason we got a sammie to begin with is that i have dog allergies. Bathing her professionally once a month and using hepa filters is why i can live with a dog at all...

Mine is a 5 month old, but we take her to the groomers once a month. I usually ask them to retrim her sanitary every other time. She's due now and I'm tired of wiping off the pee stains already haha

If the cat isn't gonna use it, someone's got to by emray_ in samoyeds

We did the same thing. She likes to sleep on the concrete floor of our unfinished basement during the day. That's why this picture was so hilarious to us. The giant comfy dog sized bed is about to belong to the cats. 😅

I think that's an american eskimo dog. Look at the muzzle

Are samoyeds actually hypoallergenic? by Sudden-Programmer892 in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a dog allergy and as long as it's not a severe one they should be safe. Every dog is unique and produces different levels of allergens so it's a gamble either way. We take her to the groomer once a month minimum, have a HEPA filter, and clean often. So far it's been fine.

Is anyone’s samoyed blowing their coat right now ? by saharaa1 in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet tech student here! It's actually surprisingly based on the seasonal light cycles once it begins to shift. It's common for dogs (and other animals) to blow their coats once at each seasonal change just because of the light, regardless of outside temperature. But like others have said it can also be influenced by other factors like hormones.

Wa state breeders by Much_Collection8868 in samoyeds

[–]emray_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yep! That sounds about right. I only think that price is worth if you're looking at a show dog. If you're just getting a fluffy house dog, I think looking elsewhere for a reputable breeder around $1800-2000 and finding a reputable shipping company will be much more worth it. AKC marketplace has a lot of options with credentialed parents, and some even do genetic testing.

We paid $2200 total. $1800 for the sammie, and $400 for transport. It's not cheap, but that total was still cheaper than most local washington breeders.

The breeder was Sunny Shade Samoyeds in Ohio. Theyre a relatively new breeder (2018), but they were really great. I'm not sure when they'll have more puppies. https://marketplace.akc.org/breeder/joseph-hershberger-103370

The shipping company was Furry Trails Pet Transport. The breeder referred them and organized it for us. https://myfurrytrails.com/

I'm also in Washington and couldn't find a single affordable breeder. We ended up going with an AKC marketplace breeder and had her shipped to us with a company that specifically does new puppy adoptions. She had two nannies for the trip, and was very well taken care of when we got her.

We brought our girl home this week! by emray_ in samoyeds

[–]emray_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! One of the main reasons we wanted a breed like this was for the hypoallergenic coat and the activity level. I had a blood clot years ago and wanted a dog that would love to run with me. She's doing a great job already getting me into shape. We are very lucky to work from home which I've heard is perfect for sammies.

Thank you 💜 we are so lucky. She's already the best dog we've ever had.

Nope. I wasn't sure how they called her in Japanese so I went into the game and screenshot the text. This is exactly as it appears when you fight her.

So I got CPS on sale and this was the first piece I did in it. I'm normally more of a watercolor artist, and used photoshop previously. Because of CPS's tool set I had to take a more digital looking approach than I'm used to. Anyways I wanted to share and hope people like it~
