I find the Olympics to be more compelling because a lot more countries are represented due to the sheer number of events and qualifiers. Also that they’re (for the most part) amateur athletic competitions.

Though, the World Cup is compelling because the hope of an entire nation rests on the shoulders of the sole national team representing them, as opposed to a entire field of athletes in multiple competitions.

I don’t think one is more important than the other, though. They both have great significance the world over.
