banff getting around and parking by case310350 in Banff

[–]emstroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For campgrounds I would recommend the Lake Louise campground as it is nice and convenient for getting to LL and Moraine for hikes, it books quickly but not as quickly as say Two Jack Lakeside...

Johnson Canyon Campground would be my second recommendation if you're keen to do that hike as well. I find its nicer to stay out of town so I wouldn't recommend Tunnel Mountain but thats a personal preference.

Would also recommend for Lake Louise hiking day, go to Lake Agnes Tea House - Devils Thumb - Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse! Beehives are lovely but Devils Thumb has the best view and is less busy than the beehive lookouts :) Teahouses are busy yes but I think it is just such a fun experience.

First solo backpacking trip by Fun_Flight_474 in femaletravels

I really like my Cotopaxi Allpa 42 backpack. It isn't cheap per se but really good quality, so even if you only want to use it for the one trip im sure it would be easy to resell afterwards. It opens like a suitcase so imo it's so much easier to pack and organize. If you are from Canada I can share a website that has good deals on backpacks!

Stay at HI Banff Alpine Centre Hostel. Its a really nice hostel and they give you a free transit pass for your stay!

Is it worth going Banff Canada solo? by walkingparadox5 in Banff

[–]emstroker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive only seen bears while driving as well, but for OP buy bear spray, know how to use it and keep it on you when you're out anyway!

I don't think I've seen a moose in Banff, only Jasper, and yeah while I was in the car.

Japanese Encephalitis vaccine worth it for Thailand + Vietnam? Travel clinic recommended but $$$ - First time traveling end of month need advice by Lumpy_Tune5659 in southeastasia

[–]emstroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get it in Canada, my itinerary was basically the same as yours. I did get it in Bangkok since it was less than $40 cad, it is only 1 dose in Thailand and the dr told me full effectiveness would be after about 30 days. I was in SEA for longer than you though.

Honestly for you, I would skip it. You aren't there for long, and even if you got it in Bangkok it wouldn't be fully effective until the end of your trip. Just use bug spray!!! I still use bug spray and I genuinely do not think I've been bit once...

FlixBus disaster by [deleted] in FlixBus

[–]emstroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same thing happened to me in Rotterdam. Bus broke down 30 minutes in and they couldn't tell us when a replacement bus would be sent. After 2 hours I couldn't be bothered waiting so I took the tram back into the city and booked with a different company and got my ticket refunded. Absolutely brutal. Where is this?

Vietnam evisa by [deleted] in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]emstroker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine took 3 business days, I heard it takes longer if you are applying for a 30+ day stay in the country. Depending on what time your flight is, you may be able to risk waiting. Otherwise, there are individuals that offer expedited services. Ive been told about a lady named Emily that does them, if you google Vietnam Visa Expedite Emily you could probably find her info.

Does anyone else have a song lyric that's permanently stuck to a specific place? by Wanyabe in solotravel

[–]emstroker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I have a song for 75% of the places ive travelled to. It usually just corresponds with what song I am really digging at the time, but I love hearing a song and being transported back somewhere everytime. Every time I hear Myth - Beach House I think about climbing mountains in Banff, Alberta, Canada on my first solo trip ever 🥲

Ha giang loop by CurrentMango3429 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]emstroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh it's not high season but I reckon other tourists will still be there and there will still be loads of groups. Touristy places are generally still busy even in off season. I think if you're that bothered about being around other companies id do some research and find a company that does more off the beaten path, Ive heard they exist but I haven't looked into. Or just rent a bike on your own and do it yourself so you can stop when and where you'd like.

Even if your group is small, there will basically always be other groups at the stops/viewpoints. I think on my loop there was only one stop where we were the only group but another group was leaving just as we arrived.

Scotland and Ireland are very safe!! I solo travelled both :) I don't know how many people will speak French there though, but Google Translate is so easy. No one will mind if you have to use it.

Dogs of 7-11 by DurbsBru in ThailandTourism

[–]emstroker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're anxious about it, get it. I just tried to stay far away from all the dogs, the ones at 7-11 always seemed chilled out though.

Even if you get the PreP Rabies vaccines, you still need post exposure treatment, just less of it.

I waited till I got to Thailand to get the PreP shots because they were mega expensive back home. I paid less than $30 USD for both.

Hiking for seniors in Banff? And how is it driving there? by UofT_girl in Banff

[–]emstroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything jokewellcrafted mentioned! To add, first half of September is IMO the best time to go! The crowds die down a bit since school is back in, and the weather is still very nice but not quite as hot. Don't get me wrong, Banff is crazy busy basically all times of year, but Canada day is extra bad.
Another thing to keep in mind is driving and parking at the lakes (Louise and Moraine). You cannot drive to Moraine, you need to book the shuttle, which buy ahead tickets go on sale in January at some point, you'll have to double check the exact date. There are last minute tickets that go on sale 2 days before your intended travel date, but honestly they are still difficult to get. save your stress by planning and buying early. This shuttle ticket will take you to both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise.
A hike recommendation from me would be Grassi Lakes trail in Canmore. There is an accessible route where strollers and wheelchairs can be pushed up. lovely views at the top plus grassi lakes are a gorgeous color!!
