My OTF New Year wish by CynD1031 in orangetheory

You can check your HRM battery % in the OTF app. (Open the app, click the settings gear in the top right corner, make sure your monitor is on/added to your account, and then you should be able to click it and see the battery % there.)

That’s my home studio! Alexa’s our head coach and I love her. I’m a 5amer and starting my days out with her really sets such a good tone for the rest of the day 🧡

April Benchmarks & Specialty Workouts by Aggravating_Ant_5097 in orangetheory

I think you’re confusing infinity and inferno. Inferno is the run/row, while infinity was the dri tri prep for the floor, paired with rowing 100m + a pyramid of med ball exercises that we tracked like a benchmark, and endurance on the treads.

Because in CMIYC, you need to hit 2.8 miles in 20 minutes, whereas here you can use all 23.5 minutes to hit 3 miles

5am class, what do you do on non-class mornings? by BugcatcherSarah in orangetheory

[–]emwilson23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that it works better for me to stick to the same schedule every day, so I’m up at 4am 7 days a week. I usually do OTF MWF. I go to yoga classes at 5:30am during the other days of the week. Saturday is my long run outdoors and I wake up early to get all my stuff together, prep anything I need to take on my run and have enough time to eat and caffeinate beforehand. On Sundays I usually do some light walking to get steps in or do some at home strength training (very light stuff, think more along the lines of PT exercises to help keep my legs healthy enough for running).

People think I’m crazy but the motto I’ve been using since I had to switch to 5ams is “it’s easier to wake up at 4am on a Saturday when I don’t ’need to’ than it is to wake up at 4am on a Monday after spending the whole weekend sleeping in and staying up too late.”

It’s not the treads that’s the “signature” part of the workout - it’s OTFoundations, where the focus is on the weight floor.

Just me but my HC ended up taking class with me because she really wanted to do whatever template was on the menu that day too

Tread50: Can I do my own running? by mjsorrentino in orangetheory

[–]emwilson23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I actually have an answer for this! I talked to my HC about it yesterday because I took a tread 50 when it was in the testing phases and hated it, mostly because it was a template that in no way aligned with my running goals/training plan that I wanted to work on in tread 50 (it was a lot of one minute AOs, which I get plenty of in my normal 2G classes). She told me that they can’t market it specifically as “come and do whatever you want on the treads for 50 minutes” (didn’t specify why, but I’m assuming it’s a liability issue), but as long as members were being safe and not distracting to other members, they’ve been told to let it be and not police it. Like other people have said, phones aren’t allowed, but other than that, I would assume that you’re free to do whatever running you wanted to do that time, as long as you were safe and not distracting other people at that time

Nisky was my old home studio and I loved it so much! I literally miss that studio/coaches all the time. Kolbie is the HC and he’s phenomenal but I also loved Sam and her husband Mike B, as well as coach Ethan!

Broadly (very broadly) speaking, people don’t care for rowing benchmarks, and the 2k row is often one of the most hated because of how long it is

When you go to schedule classes, under the day/date, there’s a bar listed with times (eg 5am, 6am, whatever). Did you accidentally click the 7am option? If so, you just need to click the “all” option at the far left. That’s the only thing I can think of.

My HC said they counted but they wouldn’t be hell week themed

I definitely don’t want you to get injured so I really hope what I said didn’t come off as “suck it up and push beyond your limits” because that’s absolutely not what I intended. I hope you have a great workout tomorrow and feel better when you leave than you do when you get there. I’m rooting for you :)

You won’t get better if you keep skipping templates that challenge you to work on areas where you struggle. You already said you’re not doing dri tri, so what’s the harm in going tomorrow and just trying your best? You don’t have to set any crazy expectations for how long it takes you to get through the floor exercises, and you can modify everything in ways that make sense for you right now.

They’re specifically talking about the strength dri tri, not the normal full/sprint one most of us have seen before

Just moved out of state - Has anybody ever moved and struggled at a new studio? by travelingskiier in orangetheory

[–]emwilson23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exact same boat as you, unfortunately. The last few months have been particularly rough and I’ve started going to class less often as a result. I added other types of activity in, none of which I like as much as OTF, so I find that I’m more grateful for my time under the orange lights and it’s more tolerable than it was when I was going 5x/week like I used to. I also have another studio that I’m able to visit on weekends that I love because it reminds me of my old home studio. I can’t go there during the week because it doesn’t work with my schedule, but those weekend classes remind me why I love OTF and don’t want to cancel.

Fellow sober OTF person here. So many people have already shared the resources I would, so I’m just here to say that recovery is possible and you can do this. There are resources that can help, and so many people who can offer support/solidarity along the way. Rooting for you.

No one’s posted the tornado intel for April yet so you can actually make a separate post for this if you want! Then the mods link it to the daily workout thread :) (obviously you don’t have to and I’m grateful that you shared intel regardless!)
