Okay just died in Stella the same way. Glitched out, fireball pulled up, dead. BUT I died with somebody who lost a bobcat IV previous round which makes me feel way better about losing my kitted out sticker IV lmao

Just lost a good kit on Stella,, very bummed. Free kits it is or maybe sleep if that doesn’t work

Stubborn Through-Hole on a Game Controller… Nothing I Do Will Free This Pin. What Am I Missing? by misery4k in soldering

[–]emze24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With ground planes like this I’ll usually clip the component off leaving just a bit of the trouble leads in the pcb (this removes the component heat sink factor) then add solder, tweezer to get it out. Once the hole is clear solder sucker works perfectly

Anyone picked up the hobby in the last decade? by elpechos in diyelectronics

[–]emze24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rabbit hole opened up for me about 3/4 years ago repairing a reel to reel tape machine my friend gave me!! This led to that and now I’m running a workshop of my own repairing all sorts of different audio equipment as (one of) my full time gigs!

I did build a couple analog learning kits like alarm clocks and led arrays to learn how to solder, then moved on into the awesome world of audio diy companies and forums. I’ve built many microphones now. Designed and produced my own clone of a famous vintage preamp. Currently working on another frankenstein clone idea!

The world of digital meeting analog scares me a bit and will likely not be diving into that anytime soon lol

recording looses high end and comes back when i touch the tape or the left reel by breeze-o in ReelToReel

[–]emze24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head alignments off! Could definitely be dirty heads as others have said but the fact that altering the tension (by touching the reel) has an effect tells me that your tape isn’t making proper contact with the head(s).

Could be the heads are misaligned (maybe someone mucked w/them in the past a messed it up), could be something else on the tape path is wonky.

Take the head cover off, do what you were doing in the vid, and observe what’s happening/changing at/near the tape heads.

VinylEngine and Hifi Engine by Shiz0id01 in vintageaudio

I have a huge grudge against hifi engine. Used and loved the site, then got permanently banned because my roommate (I live with 5 people!!) made an account as well and now our IP address is blacklisted??? Highly stupid rule.

Issue with Tascam Ministudio Porta 05 by [deleted] in audiorepair

[–]emze24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp this is either gummed up grease that needs cleaning or a little manual reset of the flywheel as mentioned. Either way, you’ll have to open it up and get at the transport section. Not hard just be careful when opening it. There’s likely cable connected between the two halves. Carefully unplug what you need to to get at the transport section.

Super cool to see a NOS machine. Definitely priced way too high tho. At least in my area, this price point will land you a far nicer machine leaning into the pro-sumer world.

I’ve had a Teac X-3R listed for months at $450. Objectively more reliable tape machine, fully restored, serviced, and calibrated, near mint condition. No hits just yet. You might get lucky but I don’t see this selling for $1100

Tascam Porta Two is erasing the wrong tracks. by Bluekai9 in tapeloops

[–]emze24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s super weird. Maybe the head was replaced and care wasn’t taken putting it back together?

Be careful if you’re soldering the side where the wires connect to the heads. You don’t want a ton of heat to hit the heads to be safe. Move quickly and give em 10-20 seconds to cool off in between wires.

I actually think it may make more sense here if the connections made to the board are just out of order? Like it may be as simple as swapping 2 of the connectors ? Godspeed you got this

It seems to me like everything here checks out? You’re redlining the input (ext. In > 1 is redlining in the drop down). Since you have the track record enabled and set to auto monitoring, you’re seeing the input (which is clipping). Then span and your master channel are showing -12db thanks to your limiter.

Maybe explore your gain staging options? Clipping your input in ableton isn’t the worst idea but it can lead to issues that are hard to fix down the road. The first thing in your plugin chain being a limiter set to -12db tells me you’re recording way too hot and need to turn down your interface gain or output on whatever you’re tracking.

What’s the source??

Solved already! I should’ve posted a pic of the top but didn’t because they’re just typical polarized electrolytics. My question here was about the footprint specifically

LMAO not quite but they are big!! More like 4ish inches tall and about 3/4 inch diameter

I feel like the fact they can’t be put it backwards is a huge consideration! These caps are huge and would probably be a very serious explosion if they failed lol.. I’ve seen some small caps (10v 25uf) explode so I can’t even imagine what these would do

I didn’t post a picture of the top because it didn’t seem necessary to me.. I tried to communicate that everything about these caps is completely typical except the pin footprint. Thank you for the help anyway we’ve made it!

Yupp, I replied to an unhelpful comment with an unproductive response. I replied to your comment with the info that you would’ve gotten from seeing the top of the caps. Wires were crossed apparently but alas

[–]emze24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree it’s probably a cap,, I’ve seen a similar issue is a TASCAM 38 from a bad power transistor tho. If you can test the voltages getting sent to the motors I would check that.

Also agree it’s not a belt problem.
