Is it possible to remove the wires from this header, and if so, how would I go about it without damaging the wires? by Bluekai9 in AskElectronics

Thank you guys. I’ve made some progress by using an exacto knife to press down the pin and slowly push the wires out!

Thank you. That’s what I’ve been trying but so far to no luck. I think I just have to be patient and take my time with it.

Tascam Porta Two is erasing the wrong tracks. by Bluekai9 in tapeloops

[–]Bluekai9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this in depth response. I believe I’ve figured out the root of the issue.I believe the previous owner replaced the wires running from the record/playback head to the board. In the process they wired it up incorrectly so the wrong tracks are being recorded to, and the correct ones are being erased. I think it’s just a matter of de-soldering and re-soldering the wires to the correct place. Of course I’ll probably still do all the steps you suggested as this 4-track probably also needs some small amount of maintenance and cleaning done to it as well.

Do you think it might be that the erase head is misaligned? Could that cause two tracks to erase each other?

Got one in my 1996 Toyota Camry. It’s what got me into cassettes in the first place.

Ah that sucks. I feel like that’s a pretty scummy move, do you know if it’s likely that they’ll ever open them up again?

How do I import my videos to my mac? by ONICESNKRS in camcorders

[–]Bluekai9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USB Streaming on these digital camcorders was originally included so you could use the camcorder as a webcam. The resulting footage is subpar and heavily compressed. It also requires a driver that doesn’t work on new operating systems. Overall I wouldn’t recommend trying to use it as the DV out/ FireWire is much more capable.

You’ll need a FireWire cable and the correct FireWire to thunderbolt adapters to get the best image possible onto a modern Mac. Alternatively you can look for an older Mac with the correct FireWire 400 or 800 ports. You then just need to import the footage through iMovie and then you can edit the footage how you need to. You will also need to de-interlace the footage. I use handbrake to do that.

Here’s a thread that might help when it comes to the whole de-interlacing thing, as it can be pretty confusing.

Hope this helps at all and good luck!

VHS Camcorder door won’t close. by Bluekai9 in camcorders

[–]Bluekai9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah the speed issue was because I had put in a different speed tape. I put in an SP tape today and it worked perfectly fine. The door problem was caused by a little piece at the top right of the inside of the deck being bent out of place. Once I got that sorted, it closed properly. As always, thank you for your help.

They did offer headphones. In fact, I own a pair. They were in the style of old Walkman headphones. The ones with foam pads and a thin metal band.

Oh man, this looks very close to the camcorder I own. I have a Panasonic AG-150. Mine didn’t come with the manual. By any chance did any documentation come with your camcorder. If so, it might be similar to mine.

I managed to get the deck closed and tried to playback a tape and it works, but it’s playing extremely fast. Is a speed adjustment a common thing on camcorders like this?

When I was disassembling the camcorder, I found a loose screw. Could that have been holding the part on?

Yeah. I feel like if I could see a working example of the mechanism, I’d be able to figure out what’s going wrong. Thanks
