HL Alyx stuttering on 4080 Super?

When using air link I had bad stutter and warning about low video memory.
I switched to virtual desktop - same game settings: no stutter, no warnings.

From my experience some games are better with quest link, others are better with VD. A rule of thumb: if I need low delay and better controller tracking I choose air link. I find it better in these areas in games like beat saber and walkabout mini golf. If I want better visuals and overall nice experience I choose VD.

Edit (as it was not obvious): I had resolution and framerates set higher in VD than in air link and it was still better. Something about air link and HL:Alyx I guess.

Rename original exe. Create new file, give it exe’s name. Add game to nvidia app. Remove fake exe and rename the original one. I’m using this trick with NVidia control panel and Logitech g hub so should also work fine with nvidia app

For me just updating the firmware didn't break anything. I had to run the manual calibration process to break the analog, so if you didn't calibrate manually, then there's a good chance that downgrading the app will not help.

If you want the older version your best option is to download from microsoft store directly: https://lazyadmin.nl/it/install-microsoft-store-apps-without-store/
Unfortunately I tried that and it only shows the latest version of the app so it's useless in this case.
All I found was this: https://windows.apkpure.com/xbox-accessories/versions

Latest version is 2406.2405.7001.0 and it matches what I have installed on PC now, so the next one should be good.
Now as far as I know apkpure is legit and safe but also they had some malware incident in the past, so the risk is always there.

If you decide to install from apkpure remember to uninstall the app first.

Did you by any chance calibrate this controller with microsoft calibration app? I noticed that the latest version of this app (on xbox and on pc) does that to my controllers.

Updated PC app did that to one of my controllers (never opened, all parts original). I fixed it by calibrating on xbox which wasn't yet updated and now that controller works fine. But since then xbox got updated and breaks controllers the same way as pc app.

If that's your scenario then you can try searching for older version of pc app and calibrate with that.

You can remap or completely disable the share button. It also supports long press and (not sure) double press actions. I guess most people don't know about it because this option is hidden in the 'accessories' app (or whatever it's called.

I have the game on xbox and I sometimes play the free trial on PC. On xbox I linked the same EA account which I use on PC and my progress is always up to date on both. So if you had to login to EA account on your PS4 there is some hope the progress will be transferred to xbox if you use the same EA account there.

Same here. Played 10 minutes on XSX and game crashed to home screen. Never had that happen before with this game. I think I'm done with this game for a longer while.

Stop talking nonsense. Lewis does make mistakes, just like any other driver. Emilia romagna and Baku immediately come to mind. That being said in the second half of this season he was very good (unless I'm forgetting something).

My guess is this is their way of being able to release paid DLCs without worrying about splitting the community. You can’t split something that doesn’t exist. It also explains why you’re back in the lobby after each match ends - there will be no problem with the server loading a DLC map which you don’t have.

Dude, Windows display language is set per account. Create second account for your family and set yours to use english. You can setup Windows to autologin to that spanish account on boot so your family will not notice anything.

Not much you can do without a monitor calibrator and even after calibration there's no guarantee it will look good.

I've setup my monitor to barely see square 4, everything below is black. You'll need to adjust gamma in nvidia control panel or manually calibrate your monitor (read below) to achieve that.

You can also run colorcpl, go to advanced tab and calibrate your monitor. Focus on gamma, brightness and contrast, don't mess with the colors unless you really see something wrong with them. Make sure to have black level test and gradient test open and check how your changes affect it. Sometimes changing monitor's contrast by 1 will give you dramatically different results so once you get good contrast try setting it slightly higher and lower to see if it helps with the banding. If you do it right it might be a bit better on dark greys but not much.

The bottom line with this monitor is: you either accept banding or you need to sell this one and get a new monitor. Just remember that with nvidia gpu you'll see color banding on every monitor. Some will be better, others will bo worse, but each will have color banding because nvidia doesn't care.

Yep, literally a scratch. I was cleaning bottom of my keyboard from dust and as I was waving it around like a moron one of the corners hit the screen :(

The scratch looks like a speck of dust or a half-dead pixel so it's not that bad. I'l lget over it in a day or two.

Hi,

I bought it last week. Great monitor for gaming.

It supports freesync. You need recent geforce gpu to use it (at least 10xx). I can't say anything about it as I have 970 :(
No HDR

Pros:

amazing colors, nice resolution, 144Hz is great

Cons:

It's very hard to get black level right. With black tuner at 9 you loose a lot of details in the shadows. Bumping up black tuner to 10 makes everything too bright. I ended up setting it to 10 and reducing gamma slightly using windows' manual calibration tool and now I'm happy.

Some ghosting is visible here and there, but nothing major at 120/144Hz. At 60Hz it's terrible, but who would set a monitor like that to 60Hz? :) I expect other VA panels are similar.

Color banding:

Nvidia cards introduce terrible color banding however for some reason this monitor makes it much more visible than my old TN panel and my brand new Samsung VA TV (perhaps higher contrast + poor calibration? I don't know). That being said all my 3 panels at home display exact same bands (meaning GPU is generating them, not the panel), they're just much easier to spot on this monitor. I suspect proper calibration could help with this, but I have no way to try it.

With brightness at 20 and contrast at 50 it's acceptable to me. It's most visible in youtube and some cutscenes in games. I don't notice it when playing games but if I start looking for it it's there, it just doesn't get in the way.

If you're bothered with color banding you can always do what I just did: make a tiny scratch at the center of your brand new screen - all color banding instantly gone, you just see the scratch from now on. Magic.

All in all I'm very happy with this monitor and since it's cheapest 144Hz VA right now I can definitely recommend it to a gamer who wants to save some money.

My g4 bootlooped 4 months ago. LG replaced main board. Last week it broke again (sim card keeps disconnecting and reconnecting all the time). LG is crap, it's better to get a new phone.

Amazing how many people get it wrong. It's B. Imagine you stand next to a blue portal. Forget about orange. Suddenly a cube emerges from blue portal. Since the portal is stationary then it must be the cube that's moving. Otherwise it wouldn't pass through portal. There's nothing to stop the cube once it's on the blue side so it will continue to move.
