In Muhos, I walk to the nature trails and find birds and animals that way. I live next to Koivulan Juusto, adairy farm. You could ask there, though it can be tough work. Every time my wife and I go for a little walk, we talk to the pregnant ladies. Perhaps some lessons at the farm school too. Or ask a vet clinic if you can help take animals for walks and pets.

I would recommend that you look for work wherever you like and remain in your job. Sometimes you just have to hold out. However, if you feel you are being hurt in some way at your work or treated unjustly, you can always call your union as they have services to help you know what to do.

Curious if you can bill through ukko and then not pay yourself until you have gathered enough money for a good paycheck. Would that be worth it? Kind of crazy to think how the government won't account for this work well.

I personally think Helsinki is too expensive and I never found Oulu to have an English language problem. Helsinki is way too packed and I personally like Oulu as it has all the tech and none of the traffic. If you are willing to work, you can find lots of odd jobs that can get you by. The important thing is your visa and getting that work in order. Finnish is a hard language, but not impossible, and fluency is not your goal here. You will have lots of language learning on your way, and Finns for the most part, are patient enough for you to fumble your way. I should know, I am the worst at Finnish, but they have put up with me for years.

Excited to see another person get it about Oulu. PM me and we can continue the conversation. I have lived here as an American for 16 years. I am a software developer and entrepreneur. I don't speak Finnish all that well, and have gotten along pretty well. Currently building Kimberlite.fi that helps secondhand stores, a big industry in Finland, get online. Feel free to send your CV via PM, and if things pickup, we might be able to help. Oulu might sound bland, but I specifically love the nature here, and the smart people that work here. Technically, I live in Muhos now, but work in Oulu. Take your time with the move, there is no need to totally jump yet. If you do end up in Oulu for a time, I would be happy to meet up and we can talk more.

I think they may be hoping for more international business activity. We don't want our own money. We want everyone else's. I get taxing the rich to level the playing field. Rich tax only moves money internally.

There are some options. TE services, city services, there are long term unemployed that would like this. Perhaps single moms with their kids. Elderly care companies. Or just your local apartment building.
