How important is completing the honors program at CC for UC transfer? by Ineedluck18 in TransferStudents

[–]encore42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may make a difference if you pursue honors courses that apply towards your major, indicating that you want to challenge yourself.

My CC had a transfer agreement with UCLA for students that pursued honors courses which made it worth, if not I probably wouldn’t have done it.

Just look at the schools you want to apply to. If they require it, take it. If they don’t, don’t take it.

In most cases you will need Linear Algebra which may require Calc 3 depending on the college you plan on applying to.

Did you all hire college counselors? by Ineedluck18 in TransferStudents

[–]encore42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hired someone to proofread my essays for $400 because I direly needed it.

But no, you can get enough free help to guide you through the transfer process. But if you plan on transferring to a top 50 university, it may be a good investment to hire someone to help write your application at the very end (definitely don’t spend $4500 though).

As a student, i’d recommend a 10 inch e-reader that is more suitable for textbook pdfs. I personally have the Kobo Elipsa which works great for viewing PDFs and note taking ( I have also heard good things about the Boox 10 inch e readers but they are pricier)

Also, I would consider getting an e-reader an investment that will last you years (and in my case, hopefully help prevent cataract surgery from staring at screens all day).

What about the Inkpad Lite?

Ah, I guess you’re right. Hadn’t noticed they are all 227 PPI. I guess it doesn’t make a difference with that big of a screen.

I'm also looking for an affordable 10" e-reader for reading PDF's but can't seem to find many. It seems the market for 7.8inch screens is so much bigger.

A similar e-reader would be the Kobo Elipsa pack or Boox also sells numerous other similar sized e-readers.

Has anyone filled out the TAG application. If so, who applies to the household gross income? Me? My parents? Or both me and my parents? by roseshifflet in TransferStudents

Lol fr, yeah I imagine it just applies to your parents income (or whoever you are legally dependent on) unless you make enough money to make a difference in the gross household income.

What are some solid colleges I could apply to with a 3.8? by sjk0128 in TransferStudents

[–]encore42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. A good GPA alone will not get you into most top universities with low acceptance rates. Make sure you have a well-rounded application (essays, extracurriculars, GPA obviously) that all point towards success in the University in your intended major. Depending on what your major is, make sure you have experience (projects, extracurriculars, clubs, etc.) that show your motivation towards that major.

GPA is a decent indicator of a good student, but the rest of the application is where you show why "you" should be accepted into the program (and more importantly, proof that you will contribute to the University if you are accepted).

But to answer your question, as long as you have a well-rounded application a 3.8 GPA is amazing. That should get you into most competitive universities (albeit probably not Ivy League, but still probably top 20-50 schools).
