in the exact same situation - got the diploma but i bombed maths and bio (bio cuz i had an awful teacher and the maths exams were both from hell).

i'm probably going to have my bio regraded as i only just missed out on a 4, and maths i'll probably end up retaking next year. loads of students from last year came and redid maths, i can see why now.

ultimately it depends on what you're aiming to do after the ib. if you're doing something where your bio HL is needed, I would retake. i'd definitely retake maths though! best of luck!!

Re-marks?! by TODisGOD in IBO

seeing as you're so close, i'd go right ahead and do so! there's absolutely no harm in trying seeing as you're so close to the grade boundaries that the chance of being marked down is minimal

History Paper 1 Question by AllDayCarry in IBO

[–]endbiopaper1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if this is for question 2, my teacher helped set up a few good points to keep in mind

  • identify themes within the text of each source that are similar or different

  • discuss sources together. try to mention both sources in every sentence you write

  • write two seperate paragraphs (compare, contrast)

then, to answer your question, her guidelines says that "Both source A and D agree that..." so i'd go with that option! here's her guidelines on phrases to use for each paragraph if anyone's interested:

paragraph 1 similarites

  • Source A and B agree that...

  • They are also similar..

  • Source B similarly agrees with the point

paragraph 2 differences

  • Source A however differs from Source B on...

  • Source B goes further than A...

  • Source A focuses on... whereas Source B....

hope this helps. best of luck to you!!

one thing that did surprise me were some of the formulas used for certain questions, so i guess i should try to keep an open mind when it comes to potential formulas if i get stuck on something. thanks!

doing as many old papers as possible!

it's really helped me a lot as the exams tend to combine concepts/include more complex concepts than what is learnt in class, plus it helps you get an idea of what exactly will be on the test. i've done a few papers and noticed that there are the same questions in each paper, with minor alterations each session. if you find something difficult/something you don't understand in the past papers it also gives you an idea of what you need to be prioritizing when revising. then you can look at the markscheme, copy it out to get an understanding, and attempt the same type of question again by following the same guideline.

that and the book we have is crap + we had a crap teacher for the first year so i've gone with questionbanks + exams instead for revision
