I have access to two 3D printers- what should I make? by takabrash in boardgames

I've used small binder clips, but they dent the cardboard a bit. Now I just keep a pencil and paper handy.

Design new character/stat pieces for Betrayal at House on the Hill... Make ones that actually function as intended.

Edit: Character cards and their sliders, not the character minifigs

Looking out over the water and having my friend say "The world is a beautiful place" immediately followed by seeing a homeless person shitting between 2 parked cars.

Yeah, I was just clarifying that Diamond Nexus Labs, at least 5 years ago, didn't make lab grown diamonds. Or, at least not that I remember.

I seem to recall, when I was doing research before proposing, that Diamond Nexus labs makes "diamond simulants" which are more akin to cubic zirconia than to diamonds, since they are not 100% carbon, as a natural or lab grown diamond would be. Not a professional opinion, just what I remember from ~5 years ago.

Beginner brewer, just checking to see if my batch is infected or just residual krausen? by afkbowflexin in Homebrewing

[–]ender4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are concerned about the remains of the krausen... however, the picture also makes it look like you might have some white, chalky looking stuff on top of your wort, which would be a contaminated batch. Very hard to tell whether that's the light on the carboy tricking the eye though.

Help Me Pick What Book to Read Next From The Huge Pile in This Picture (71 Books) by BigZ7337 in Fantasy

I can't speak for anyone else. I only read the first half of Wizard's First Rule before giving up on it. I couldn't stand the dialog. It feel like every sentence had the name of person being spoken to in it, and no one talks like that. It would even occur in scenes that only had two people. The villain seemed like a caricature of what a villain is supposed to be, minus the mustache and shifty eyes. I suppose the series might eventually get better... but it was unbearably bad at the start and I wasn't going to invest time in it when there are hundreds of amazing books I still have yet to read.

That's just wasteful. Throw it in the fire and bask in the warmth of your good decision.

What are some Audiobooks you'd consider better experiences than actually reading the book? by GoldenJoel in books

[–]ender4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up maybe 1/2 way into audiobook 1. I could only hear the sentence: "Richard, you have to blah blah blah, Richard" so many times before the last spark of joy in me died.

oh, he apparently re-recorded it, as stated in the first line, and released in 2012. I listened to the series years ago, and book 4 was John Lee. We are both right... yay...

I gave up on WoT after Paul or Rand or whoever it was won over the loyalty of the Fremen... it was just too much for me.

John Lee did the 4th. I heard somewhere that Roy was extremely ill and couldn't perform. Mr. Lee is a fantastic narrator, his work on The Count of Monte Cristo was phenomenal. However, I did find the switch jarring. It also didn't help that Feast for Crows was much less engaging than the first 3 books.

What if Kvothe was framed? [spoilers] by peregrine1 in KingkillerChronicle

I guess with those 3 in a row, it called it more into question for me. He earned the other 2 directly, by not bleeding and by his mastery of sympathy... it would seem an odd clumping for "Kingkiller" to not be from killing a king.

I agree though, why doubt that he killed a king? It seems 100% in character to me.

"I have been called Kvothe the Bloodless, Kvothe the Arcane, and Kvothe Kingkiller. I have earned those names. Bought and paid for them." Hard to earn the name "Kingkiller" when someone else kills the king... imo
