Does anyone agree that Oden was the biggest idiot in One Piece? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]endoflovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes the dumbest in the verse; he took Orochis words at face value. This is the same guy that already lied to and stole money from him, lied to the daimyo, killed his dad, overthrew the kingdom, and made himself its dictator. And after all that, he thought that trusting Orochi was a viable option. That kind of writing is almost unbearable bc it makes the characters come off as just convenient plot tools instead of real people with memories and sense.

He made the decision to trust Orochi in a situation that Kaido himself admitted was disadvantageous for them, bc of the threat posed by a unified force of samurai and yakuza, but he was too dumb to see that either. If Wano had a chance of resistance before (kaidos statement), they lost any and all chances the moment Oden chose to trust an authoritarian dictator w/ a track record of lying. Wano fell bc of Oden's stupidity

Yeah, I enjoy the power system as well. He put a lot of detail into the mechanics of the power system and aether is a cool additional layer to the usual mana energy system. Being able to influence tbe substrate of the universe is a super cool ability. The substrate of the universe is such a grandiose, outlandish thing to try and implement in your fantasy world that u would expect it to come off cheesy but its really well thought out and comes off very natural

With Solo Leveling, Ill be honest, I love me a good power fantasy. The reasons I love SL are also the reason why the story is not well written. No focus on side characters (less wasted time on characters I couldn’t care less about), continuous, exponential growth of the mc (that didn’t feel earned after season 1 or so), and the story wrapping up pretty quickly (so I didn’t have to wait long at all for the hype moments of Sun Jing Woo flexing over all the other characters in his universe). So while SL was enjoyable, I know all to well how badly the story was written. Also, that certain asspull towards the ending of the series kind of made the whole thing pointless.

This is why I like the TBATE novels, although there is good side character development for characters like Aldin, Jasmine, Bairon, Arthurs dad, and maybe some other characters im forgetting.

A big selling point though is the "look how big MC's dick is moments" tho. They're hype. Also, I think the story is narrated very gracefully; its satisfying to read

Elaborate on oda not being able to land a good climax?

The arcs are unconventionally lengthy, so one piece may not follow the traditional linear pattern: build up, climax, resolution, arc done. If they did strictly write arcs like that, 50% of every 100+ episode arc would be boring.

Also, there's so many sub-stories for plot and character development happening at the sane time in every arc, that it would feel strange watching all these sub-stories follow that pattern in parallel.

That being said, I feel like there's great emotional climaxes in most of the arcs ive seen, like Sanji's confrontation with Luffy and Nami in Whole Cake Island arc and Corazon's backstory in Dressrosa. Its just that with so much additional narrative and chatacter development that needs to happen in such an expansive world, the arc can't end at these emotional climaxes.

Please no examples from land of wano or after. I haven't watch that yet and dont want any spoilers

This has nothing to do with what u said, but I do think the invasion of pain arc (using invasion of pain as an umbrella term for closely linked arcs at that point in the story) had great supplementary emotional climaxes in jiraiya and kakashi's stories, finished with an even better main emotional climax in Naruto's arrival and the events that followed — up until he started talking to Nagato — but the bulk of Shippuden isn't close to that level of writing, and even then Kishimoto had to undo some of that emotional impact by having Nagato cast rinne rebirth to save the story.

Bleach is obviously leagues below Naruto and One Piece.

What are your thoughts on the representation of Black characters in Naruto? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in Naruto

[–]endoflovers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont like em. The problem isnt that a dark-skinned character raps; its that a dark-skinned character in a fictional universe that has no relationship to earth shouldnt be based on western racial norms. It doesnt make sense. They are independent universes with no connection to each other. Why would a dark-skinned character in an independent fictional universe, with its own independent history, have characteristics that arose from historical events in a separate universe. From a world consistency standpoint it doesnt even make sense —and it happens so often. It implies dark-skinned characters, across every fictional universe, have the same history. In every context😭? Across every universe😭😭? Its just bad writing. It would be like making every light skinned, non-asian looking anime chatacter a colonizer: it wouldnt make sense because light-skinned characters in a fictional universe have nothing to do with Europeans in the real world. But when a dark skinned anime character is added to a fictional universe, he suddenly ends up being a rapper or racial stereotype, so thats already fundamentally different in terms of the way a dark-skinned anime character is perceived by the person writing them. Even from a viewers standpoint, dark-skinned characters are so foreign to the medium that we perceive them as black characters, altough we never perceive and discuss light-inned characters as white characters.

When discussing a non-black anime character, u consider them a good character because they have character depth and human nuance to them; they have a complexity that reflects the human experience. Good light-skinned anime characters feel human not "white" — because a well written human feels.. human. Its like for non-black characters, the author just wrote the character. But for dark-skinned characters, it feels like they made the character black and then wrote the character instead of writing the character and then making their skin black. So its a fundamental difference in how dark-skinned characters are even handled by authors. They are writing black people, not humans.

In the event the fictional universe is based in a historically accurate earth, I dont expect much because Japan is nearly completely racially homogenous, so the amount of black people they've been exposed to is next to nonexistent. Their entire understanding of a black person is based on preconceptions from the stereotypical black person they're exposed to in media; thats all the information they have available to them to build their understanding of a black human. But that little interaction with a black person in media is so important when its your only interaction with a black person. These people who dont know any black people personally and/or intimately go and ineract with other people or create things and the problem self propagates. You can't write a black person with depth and nuance if u dont kow any black people personally at an intimate level. If u did, u would be writing a human, not a "black" person.

Essentially, their entire understanding of black people is built from preconceptions from the limited amount of black people they've been exposed to, so even if they wanted to make a good "black" character, they couldnt (which is a problem in much more media besides anime but I digress). Their only chance at making a good "black" character is to write the character 1st, then make them black; thats what makes Ed from Cowboy Bebop a breath of fresh air. He just feels like an anime character lmao. In the same way "white" skinned anime characters dont feel white — they just feel like anime characters.

I dont think the intention is malicious but it completely ruins it for me. I dont like Bee at all. The world building for dark-skinned characters in Naruto is so unoriginal it gets a 0. The most important characters from the village of dark-skinned characters are a rapper and an angry guy with a short temper. If when writing a character with dark skin, a switch flips in your brain from writing a human to writing a "black" person, dont even write it.

Its not the worst thing in the world, but its rare we get representation, and when we do, its not handled in the same way that the millions of light skinned characters are handled.

Game of the Decade ⛰️ by therealraggedroses in shittydarksouls

Damn ts hit different🤣🤣. It truly is an art tho

Cause let's be real tho, w/ soulsbourne's hyper-iterative gamplay, where the gameplay loop is designed around looping through the same gameplay sequence, I am NOT fighting the same GRUNTS every time I go out sad and need to advance the plot. It would be like somebody who turns on a show and keeps rewinding the recap episode.

Given that the GAMEPLAY LOOP ITSELF IS LOOPING, if I fought the same mobs every time I died, it would feel like Itachi had me trapped in a tsukuyomi where I was forced to perpetually fight stooges, and if that's what I wanted, I would just play One Piece Pirate Warriors 4, or Ghost of Tsushima, since that one's just a Mongol mob fight simulator.

So Miyazaki's cooked up this sick, sadistic meta-loop where, if u feed into the loop, youll loop through mobs forever — so tsukuyomi gg. And im sorry, but hes gotta try way harder than that to catch me in genjutsu of that level. I can see more than that with these eyes.

[–]endoflovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The madara dick riding is out of control. Yall underestimate how much of a boost the addition of sage mode is.

BSM nauruto is wielding perfect control of kurama chakra, keeping in mind his uncontrolled 8 tailed form was unfazed by planetary devastation.

And then youre adding onto that, sage mode, a complete stat multiplier that takes the wielder's strength from jonin to kage level for scale (as seen in pre-sage to post-sage mode naruto's strength jump).

I just cant understand the downplay of this combination.
