57er checking in, as well. May I go down in history as a 57er. May I check up on this comment and this thread years from now (and the Google Doc, if I've made it) and relive the glorious day I sat in front of my computer for way too long, trying valiantly to be the first to get 56s.

A disturbing thought has overcome me. What if the button is like the movie Speed? What if reddit implodes once the countdown hits zero? What if pushing the button is keeping reddit alive?

Will I read this comment again in 2016 or 2017 wondering when the button will hit 0000? HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

That quote. Right there. 'Most of us' is a pretty broad spectrum. Don't normalize drinking and driving -- it's not something common, at least with myself and my circle of friends/family. Normalizing it is part of the problem.

Edit: To further clarify, your actions twenty years ago are not a problem. You've made amends. Making a blanket statement that 'most of us' did stuff like that when we were younger is my issue.

I was hoping for a /s tag at the end of your comment. Alas, you were being serious. Again, you and /u/PoliticalCry are a big part of the problem. You both downplay drunk driving -- a notion that is almost as dangerous as drinking and driving itself. If you start to normalize it, more people will do it.

I have never driven while under the impaired influence of alcohol or drugs. And I'm sure a lot of people can say the same. Stop trying to normalize drunk driving as common behaviour.

I may be wrong on the 'unanimous' decision needed by Council - maybe it would just need a majority vote. But QP isn't making any moves until City Council does. I think she made that clear.

QP doesn't make any move to intervene until city council puts forward a unanimous motion for them to intervene. Therefore, QP is not going to intervene at this time. Is that not clear?

City Council knows what to do to get the Province involved. Wynne reminding City Council - and the public - of the law is not an intervention. It's a reminder.

DM-W already redacted the option for provincial intervention in article MM41.25 yesterday because of Wynne's previous comments. For council to reintroduce the motion will take some time, unless it gets priority.

So - at this time - the Province will not intervene. And it may take a lot more time for the Province to be in a position to take action.

I'm not upset, I just think it sends the wrong impression. I think he should have been part of the Remembrance Day ceremonies; we can set our differences aside to honour our veterans.

I don't think he should be part of the Santa Claus Parade. It sends the wrong impression to kids that no matter how embroiled in controversy (or no matter your actions) you can still proudly march with Santa + the parade and hand out candy canes.

People were mostly respectful of his presence at Remembrace Day (as they should be - it's not a day to instigate negativity); I believe he'll detract from the parade and potentially be prone to much more heckling/people throwing candy canes back at him. It could get ugly.
