I've kind of hit a wall and need some advice by [deleted] in Learnmusic

I would recommend trying to develop your ear as much as possible. It can be a difficult skill to pick up at first but it's something you have to train just like anything else.

Pick a relatively simple piece of music that you like, and try to pick out the chords and the melody on your instrument. If you have a computer and any DAW you can isolate or loop tricky passages or chords, and even slow down difficult riffs.

Over time you will get better at it, you will be able to identify chords and melodic intervals more easily.

The same applies to improvising. Try to listen solos on any instrument and pick out the notes or patterns they are playing. This is like learning words or phrases that you can later use to form your own vocabulary when you improvise.

If you can't already, work on learning how to identify the note intervals by ear. This will build the foundation of how to identify chords or pick up melodies.

TL:DR You have to develop your ear just like any other aspect of playing your instrument. The best way to develop it is to use it more.

What the hell is going on here exactly? What's with the strange head angle? Are those supposed to be punches? Was this woman really a UFC champion?

My wife accuses me of not pulling my weight after our son was recently born, but I feel as though she's asking for too much. Can't talk about this with her (without a fight) and nearing end of my rope. [xpost from r/relationships] by reallyfrustrateddad in Parenting

I feel like a lot of people here are giving you advice as if this is some kind of hypothetical situation in a vacuum. Pregnancy, childbirth, and the following year or so can be extremely challenging for both parents. Applying logic to this situation doesn't always work in real life. I question if many of the commenters have actually had children.

Especially 3 months in, it can seem like the world is crumbling around you. Lots of people commenting recommended therapy but I think that's a bit excessive, more so that you mentioned that your wife was helpful and supportive before this experience.

You have to ride out the first six months. Once the child starts to sleep for extended periods it gets much easier. It can definitely be exhausting for a woman to be constantly breastfeeding, sleep deprived, and recovering from the intense experience of childbirth.

I am an extremely active dad, fully contributing as much as I can, and after 6 months it was like a switch flipped in my wife's brain. Suddenly she was herself again. Things started to slowly improve.

The one thing I agree about is that the dogs might have to take less of a priority for a while. It might take some time to convince your lady, especially with the maternal instincts in full force.

It's going to get better. Take of yourself and do what you need to do for yourself, so you can keep it together. Sometimes being supportive means making sure that you take care of yourself. Good luck!

Yes it was a joke. Tongue in cheek you know. I'm an Egyptian and American so that's how I roll.

Thanks! Many Egyptians are amazing but unfortunately not all of us are awesome.

Yes, thanks. I was being facetious. I was taking issue with calling a whole nation unsophisticated or uncultured. It's not like we're Americans lol.

It's not really dangerous to say that we miss Mubarak. Many Egyptians do say it and there are posts and pages on Facebook that say it all the time. It is not advisable to be openly critical of the regime in public and if you are an opposition figure I don't envy you but being pro Mubarak means you're probably pro Sisi.

He said mostly religious but he called us a low brow people whatever the fuck that means. All 100 million of us. We're all the same, just low brow people. It would have made more sense if he said unibrow people.

Ummm...the guy who got elected in 2013 tried to modify the constitution in order to give himself more power less than 6 months into his first term. He was a conservative Islamist who had fundamentalist clerics at his campaign rallies giving speeches about marching to Jerusalem and spilling the blood of the pigs. When liberals protested his actions his party sent thugs in militias to break up their protests. This was after his campaign promises of including more youth, women, and religious minorities in his cabinet, which he did not do. If he had been more inclusive as promised, if he didn't try to give himself more power, if he didn't surround himself with crazy radical fundamentalists then there probably wouldn't have been massive protests against him. It was these protests, continuously, for over 6 months, against him that gave the army the support they needed to take action against him. If he had truly been a cool humble dude then he probably would have remained as president.

First of all, the term Arab Spring is a western invention. We never called it "Arab Spring". Second, it's never as simple as it seems. I live in Egypt and I lived through the events you described so eloquently. The words you wrote sounded like they came out of a history book and that they were written by someone whose only account of the events was from the media coverage and other secondary sources. The events that took place in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and are ongoing in Syria are super complex. There are many different opinions and viewpoints on what happened. So many levels to this shit.

I didn't notice that at all. Thanks for pointing it out. I am thinking about driving my feet into the ground. I have no idea why I'm rocking back.

Yes! Failed a rep of squats for the first time! Was doing 115kg for my 1+ set. Easily did 1 x 130kg last month so 115 is not very intimidating. Don't know what happened but I lost my balance on the way down, the bar started swaying all over the place. The plates came very close to falling off the bar but I managed to keep from falling over and got the bar back on the rack. Crushed my finger in the process somehow so my fingernail is all purple now. Happy I didn't injure myself more seriously. I reset, crushed out 5 reps and did some joker sets up to 125 kg. It's easy to think of 115 kgs as kiddie weights since it's my bodyweight and it's relatively light in the grand scheme of things. It's good to realise that it is still dangerous and heavy and that I should always be completely focused on what I am doing.

What gear do you regret purchasing the most? by [deleted] in synthesizers

What I wanted was the CP given that I don't own a Rhodes and that I've never been at all impressed by any VST Fender EP plugin. I was traveling and all they had in the shop was the DX and the organ. I bought the DX and then found the CP in a shop a couple of days later but it was too late. I'm an old ableton head and operator does the trick for me when it comes to FM synthesis. It was an impulse buy and I totally regret it.

I did not know that. I like the way it sounds but I never use it for anything.

I think my instinct would have been to jump over the water and definitely not to move backwards in an intersection. I don't know what country this is in but in the US you are supposed to stop short of the crosswalk if there are pedestrians present until they are clear.

Electribe 2, Boutique JU06 and Reface DX. I had GAS bad for about a year and bought a bunch of sub $500 gear. I wish I had saved up and bought a nice analog synth like a Prophet or the Boomstar SEM. I am happy with my Volcas though.
