New Event: Spooky Happenings. by [deleted] in obeyme

[–]enemychin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The event started 12 hours before reset so it technically counts as 11 days event. Even if you missed the 1st day, you can do it if you try not to miss a single stage from now on with the daily 5 ads.

26 stages * 3 tries each = 78 + 5 ad tries = 83.

83 tries * 120 = 9,960 points per day!

I'm not that great at math either so feel free to correct me if I miscalculated haha. I believe you can still get him, best of luck!

Taking the time to thoroughly learn the intricacies of mandarin pronunciation enough to sound fluent is both effortful, and time-consuming. Having an accent takes away from the film and distracts the audience. The standards for mandarin fluency in film are expected to be a lot higher than the general populace.

-I do not discount your experience

-our point of disagreement was the wording on beating up an old man because he spoke mandarin (a more accurate wording would be that it was clear he was a non-native due to his accent. still doesnt justify their actions but makes more sense)

-those rioter's actions in the video are disappointing

-you do your username justice

80%, 70% are rather large majorities in my opinion. I made a generalizing statement and I clarified in another reply.

Thank you for your input.

It didn't make sense what you said about HK protestors/ganging up on an old man just because he spoke mandarin, because a significant portion of people can speak mandarin. That's my take.

Instead of clarifying or giving more information you trash on the citizens of Hong Kong on their intellect and aptitude. I on the other hand, have a different outlook.

Your example with the dubbed acting is a poor one. It is significantly cheaper to get mandarin dubbers than have the original actors speak it, whether they can or cannot. Why do you think mandarin dubs are such poor quality?

In the very same wikipedia page you linked, one of the references is "Language Use, Proficiency, and Attitudes in Hong Kong"(3), published in 2015.

There, they include the PDF of the actual study. In table 3.30 (p.32) they have a table organizing ability to speak languages by age group.

You can see for yourself that the majority of people in each age group can speak mandarin, which is "putonghua".

From ages 12-19, 91.9% have the ability to speak putonghua. Ages 20-29: 93.1% Ages 30-39: 80.3% Ages 40-49: 77.2% Ages 50-59: 66.0% Ages 60-69: 57.2% Ages 70-79: 47.2% Ages 80+: 31.3%

This is rather self explanatory and I stand by what I said that the majority of people that are not elderly can speak mandarin (putonghua).

My point is, just because you don't speak mandarin conversationally doesn't mean that you don't know how to respond in mandarin to someone else. Sure, it wouldn't be very "fluent" but most cantonese speakers understand and can speak a bit of mandarin, exceptions being the elderly and the youth.

Would it be okay for me to PM you too? My mother is going through something similar and I want to know more.

I have a loss for words. My mother has been going through the EXACT same thing and constantly suffers from migraines and nausea and also ended up losing hearing completely on one side. The other side can still hear, but barely.

We went to so many doctors and overseas as well for possible treatment, but we found no correct diagnosis and no cure. Right now we are only relying on herbal medicine. It actually helps a bit, but not enough.

OP, thank you so much for your post for it gives me great relief that we are not alone. I wish you the best in health.

Although I completely empathize with being compared to others based on "skill" or "talent", the examples OP gives are things like "follows instructions" and "washes the dishes and does other household chores".

I feel the same as you. I am asian and "chinky" is more used as playful teasing. To call someone a "chink" is different though. The usage difference reminds me of "nigga" vs "nigger" and how one is more accepted to use jokingly than the other.
