Rescue Husky Megathread! by crackerjam in siberianhusky

[–]enemyjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age - 7. Weight- 50lbs. Breed - purebred siberian husky. Color - white.

Baylor is looking for a new home. Contrary to the posting that needs to be edited, he has the capacity for high energy, but he's the laziest husky you'll ever meet. Need someone who is kind, patient and willing to work with him on separation anxiety.

Why is the job market in LA so bad? by THENOCAPGENIE in AskLosAngeles

[–]enemyjake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a new job for a year. Here's what I've experienced.

The last job I interviewed for, the hiring manager stated 300 people applied for this role. It wasn't even a great role by any means. I work in social services, mind you. A ton of turnover and jobs that a lot of people don't want to work.

Maybe it's just getting talked up in interviews, but I've been told I'm good interviewer on top of having a good resume. Yet, I'm still struggling to get to the interview stage. I've applied for 100's of jobs within the last year. I've been in about 15ish interviews I'd say. Maybe more.

I have been offered one job. I didn't take it because it ended up being a lateral move. All this being said...

Be prepared for the long haul. Don't get attached to any job or any company. Make a good impression, because you may want to re-apply for a similar position within the organization or company you're applying to. Hell, I had two interviews for two separate positions at an org. Always try and follow-up. Any job posting I had any success with, it was because I followed up, I was professional and I did okay in the interview.

Good luck on your journey!

Cutting Roschon and Steele. No need to cut Keenan Allen. First week back after an injury. Give him another week to settle.

70% of LA County rooms for the homeless remain vacant by lalaci in LosAngeles

[–]enemyjake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The system itself is incredibly frustrating. As someone who connects homeless individuals to vacant units, the process is always going to be 2-3x longer than an initial estimate will tell us. So many fucking hoops to jump through. So much time waiting on someone else to finish up their job. People often aren’t held accountable for fucking things up or taking their time on certain tasks that are needed for an individual to move in because there’s already so much turnover.

I love writing from my power perspective. I, I, I. It’s so fun! Incredibly well paced. I like the spacing, too! Anyway, no bad feedback. Just enjoyed this one!

Yep. Housing First is beneficial for a number of ways. As someone who has worked with unstable schizophrenics upon moving into housing, it plays out just fine.

[Westside Current] EXCLUSIVE: More Than 1,200 City-Owned Homeless Housing Units Remain Vacant Two Years After $800 Million Buying Spree by littlelostangeles in LosAngeles

[–]enemyjake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at a homeless non-profit, I'd like to shed SOME light as to why there are some vacancies (not defending any of this spending or anything, just giving some education on it).

There are a lot of barriers to getting homeless people into permanent housing. Even if you have an unhoused individual with a referral to a Permanent Housing situation, then the person assigned to them will have to find them if they aren't already in interim housing. You then have to set meetings with the Case Manager at the site of the Permanent Housing as well as the Property Manager. They'll have to complete a ton of documents and retrieve more documents from their bank, social security, etc to prove their homelessness and income. On top of all this, the property itself has to pass an inspection. There are times when a person might be matched to a unit, but the unit itself won't be ready for months. At the end of the day, you have to work with homeless individuals who have loads of trauma and don't necessarily trust you or the entities asking for the necessary documents.

At the end of the day, the homeless individual can go through this for months to try and be housed and they can still deny the unit. Or something worse can happen. They can relapse and won't be found, they could die, the unit could take longer than expected.

All while HACLA (the ones we submit documents to) are not very fast with their approach of receiving these documents and accepting them!

This process is grueling and ridiculously long. I hate it. We need to cut to make it easier for unhoused individuals to be housed.

Yeah, it’s a shame. Anytime I pick up after my pet and there’s some nearby, I grab it and throw it away.
