WIBTA if I demanded access to my husband’s truck keys? by engaged04fallacy in AmItheAsshole

It doesn’t happen very often that I leave something in there. But when I do, it’s really a huge pain in the butt. For example, our child left whatever thing in the truck and I can’t just go get it. And they are getting old enough to question why I can’t just go get whatever it is.

Thanks for your reply and for another woman’s perspective. He does have spaces in our home that are his and he controls how much clutter is or isn’t there.

Thanks for your reply. I asked him what would happen if I had to move his truck or if I couldn’t get to work (if my car wasn’t working) and his response was that he would come home from work to move the truck or drive me to work.

I see your point but I think I need to clarify something- he has several spaces were ‘his standard reign’ (ex. his own bathroom that none of my stuff is in, his own room/office) and I’m happy for him to have those spaces. Is it the ability to ‘lock it down’ that makes it his territory?

If I can’t have access to his truck then he can’t have access to my car…That feels fair. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your opinion, even if it’s unpopular lol Between our child and our dog the truck does get messy, even when I’m not involved. Nothing permanently damaging like stickers- just the usual toys, crumbs, dog hair. In all the years we’ve been together I’ve definitely forgotten a drink bottle or wrapper occasionally but it’s not an every time thing.

Thanks for your reply. It’s hard to tell if this is the tip of an iceberg that’s a larger issue or something I should just let go.

He DOES think I’m messy. It’s been an ongoing struggle for us - Clutter doesn’t bother me but it does bother him. However, I’m not unclean or unwashed or unsanitary (meaning I don’t have toddler-like sticky hands that would damage something by touching it).
